Key Function
Visual Alerter/Message
waiting indicator
When a message is waiting, the red Visual Alerter/Message waiting
indicator lights. Also, when the ringer sounds, this indicator flashes.
Feature Status Lamp
indicator
When the firmware is updating, the blue Feature Status Lamp
indicator flashes.
This function requires server support and, therefore, is not available
on all phones.
Self-labeled line/program
mable feature keys labels
The keys on either side of the LCD display area are self-labeled
line/programmable feature keys, with labels on the LCD. These
keys also function as line (DN) keys. These keys are referred to as
line/feature keys throughout the remainder of this guide.
A steady LCD light beside a line (DN) key indicates the feature or line
is active. A flashing LCD indicates the line is on hold or the feature is
being programmed.
Context-sensitive soft
keys
Context Sensitive Soft keys are located below the display area. The
LCD label above each key changes, based on the active feature.
These keys are referred to as Soft keys throughout this document.
Fixed feature keys Use these keys to access non-programmable standard features.
Expand The Expand key is used to access external server applications, such
as Nortel Application Server.
Navigation keys Use the Navigation keys to scroll through menus and lists that appear
on the LCD display screen. The outer part of this key cluster rocks for
up, down, left, and right movements.
Use Up and Down keys to scroll up and down in lists, and the Left
and Right keys to position the cursor. You can also use the Left and
Right keys to select editable fields that appear on the phone. Press
the Right key to select the field below the current position, or press
the Left key to select the field above the current position.
Enter Press the Enter key, at the center of the Navigation key cluster, to
confirm menu selections. In many cases, you can use the Enter key
instead of the Select soft key.
Message/Inbox Press the Message/Inbox key to access your voice mailbox.
Shift/Outbox The Shift/Outbox key is used to access the second page of line/DN
feature keys.
Quit/Stop Press the Quit/Stop key to end an active application.
Pressing the Quit/Stop key does not affect the status of the calls
currently on your IP Phone.
Directory Press the Directory key to access Directory services.
Mute Press the Mute key to listen to the receiving party without transmitting.
Press the Mute key again to return to a two-way conversation.
The Mute key applies to Handsfree, Handset, and Headset
microphones. The Mute LED flashes when the Mute option is in use.
