System administrators must configure system settings to provide a list of GPI panels in the
Options dialog box. You can confirm mapping by playing items from the GPI panel; test all
of the commands.
Configuring GPI Out
Command supports GPI Out, meaning a GPI pulse can be sent from the system. This feature
does require additional configuration, but after the GPI device service is configured, GPI
events can be selected in a new GPI Out column of a playlist, or the user can enter them in
the story title (slug) or an iNEWS or ENPS rundown.
To configure the GPI device service for GPI Out:
1. Click the Start button, and then select All Programs>Service Framework>Avid Service
Configuration.
2. On the Hosts tab, navigate to and select GPI Device Service.
3. Click Add Panel. The Add Panel dialog box appears.
4. Select Output Panel and click OK.
5. In the Panel Name field, enter a name for the panel.
6. On the new panel’s tab, enter the Pulse Width and Output Early values. You will need to
test this with your automation system to determine the Output Early value that will
ensure a smooth transition. Lab testing revealed a maximum two-frame variation
between when the pulse was sent and the Done status received from an AirSpeed
(classic) device.
7. Set the first output pin.
8. Click Add Event. The Add Event dialog box appears.
9. Enter the event’s name and click OK. This is the name that will appear in the Command
playlist (and needs to be entered by iNEWS or ENPS users), so it should be something
that is easy to understand and type.
10. After you finish modifying the configuration, click Apply.
