Shutting Down the System
Under normal working conditions, you will not need to shut down the system. All the components are
hot-swappable, so that if a piece of hardware fails (a drive, power supply, or fan) you can replace it while the system
remains running.
However, if you need to move the Engine to a different location or if it will be unused for an extended period, you
can shut it down.
To shut down the system:
1. Alert all clients to stop using and unmount all Workspaces.
2. Open the Agent. For more information, see “Opening the ISIS Agent” on page 102.
3.
Click the Advanced tab.
4. Under System Tools, click Shutdown.
The Agent page displays the message
Confirm shutdown request
, and a field in which you must enter the
Administration password to continue.
5. Enter the Administrative password, then click Shutdown.
A message is displayed that the system is shutting down. When it does, the Agent page closes, the Management
Console closes (if open), and all clients are disconnected from the system.
6. Optionally, turn off the switches on both power supplies and disconnect the power supplies from mains power;
for example, if you are going to physically relocate the system.
Restarting the System
You can restart the system after a clean shutdown.
To restart the system, do one of the following:
t If the power supplies are not plugged in to mains power, connect them.
t If the power supplies are still connected to mains power, turn off the switches for a few seconds, then turn
them on again.
The system begins its power on self test (POST) processing, and after several minutes the fans start running at
full speed. After a few more minutes, the system becomes available on the network and you can open a browser
and log into the Management Console.
