Getting Started 1 Working with Avid Link The following topics describe the Avid Link application. • Getting Started • Setting Up Your Preferences • Home Page • Products Page • Collaborating with Avid Link • The Avid Marketplace • AvidPlay Music Distribution Service Getting Started Avid Link is a free application that makes it easy to find, connect, message, and collaborate with audio and video creators. You can promote your work and skills to a network of media professionals.
Getting Started n Avid Link will uninstall Application Manager if it is on your system. The installation process adds a taskbar icon (Windows) or Dock icon (Mac OS X), and a pointer to your Avid editing application in the Start menu (Windows). The Avid Link tray icon is always available. So even if you close Avid Link with the X Close button, it is minimized to the tray, and can be open again by clicking the tray icon.

Setting Up Your Preferences Setting Up Your Preferences To setup your preferences: 1. Right click the Avid Link icon in your taskbar or Dock. 2. Select Preferences.

Setting Up Your Preferences Option Description Admin Options Allows you to set specific Avid Link administrator options: Admin Functions: Administrators can use this option to limit the features of Avid Link, such as software installations and Activations. You must be logged into a local administrator account in order to set/change admin functions in Avid Link. See “Administrator (Admin) Options” on page 6. Hide Avid Link after Launch: Select if you want Avid Link to launch in the background.
Setting Up Your Preferences Once added to that group, when that user next logs into Avid Link, then they should see the text [restricted] in the Avid Link title bar. Those users will not have the ability to download or install software, and also will not be able to modify Activations in any way. To change from the restricted mode back to Administrator mode, you will need a valid administrator login and password and to do the following: To change from restricted back to Admin mode: 1.
Setting Up Your Preferences 2. Click the Settings icon (orange gear) and select Edit About Me. 3. The Edit Profile window opens.
Setting Up Your Preferences 4. Use this page to enter your profile information. Scroll to continue entering your talent information. 5. Ensure Make My Profile Public is checked. This will allow you to collaborate with other artists and video and audio professionals. 6. Click Save near the top of your profile. 7. Click the Settings icon (orange gear) and select Edit Cover Photo. 8. Click the Edit Cover Photo link and locate the image you want to upload to your profile. 9. Click Open.
Home Page Top Three Portfolio Items You can select up to 3 items in your Portfolio to be the first items listed when other users look up your Portfolio. To add these items, simply click the star icon on three of your portfolio items. Those items move to the top of list when others are viewing your portfolio, in the order they are selected. Home Page Get informed and inspired with access to the latest industry news, customer stories, blogs, and product info. Filter your news feed to suit your interests.
Products Page Depending upon the product, you can choose to install, download, or redeem your product. • Install: These are products where Avid Link handles the download and the installation (for example, Media Composer, Pro Tools, plugins.) • Download: These are products that are available to download.
Products Page 5. Sign into your Avid Master Account. 6. Click the Products tab in Avid Link. 7. Find the product you want to activate and select the License option from the dropdown menu. The license area display the product’s name, system ID and the license status. 8. Select an available license and click the Available pulldown menu. 9. Click Use License. Once the product is activated, you will see a successfully activated message.
Products Page Activation ID is needed to activate your software. You can find your Activation ID in your Avid account at http://account.avid.com/. The ID is listed on the My Products page along with your downloads. You will also receive an email that contains the activation codes for each of your applications. Device ID identifies your system if you are activating your software on a system that is not connected to the Internet.
Products Page Online Activation with an Internet Connection n This section is applicable to Media Composer and Sibelius. Activation of all installed products can be performed on the Products tab of Avid Link. To activate the application with the Online option: 1. With Avid Link open, click the Products tab. 2. Find the product you want to activate and select the License option from the dropdown menu. 3. Choose Online. 4. Enter the corresponding information in the System ID and Activation ID fields. 5.
Products Page The License Server model allows you to purchase “packs” (pools) of licenses to deploy at a single site. One System ID and license can run any number of systems simultaneously. Licenses are consumed only when in use, so that additional clients can connect and use a license as it becomes available. “Consuming” and “releasing” licenses You consume licenses by connecting to the server and decreasing the overall number of licenses by 1 per client.
Products Page If server is accessible but there are no licenses available you will be warned. Clicking OK closes the Editing Application. If the connection to the floating server is lost while working with Avid Link, you are warned about the connection problem; however, you can keep Avid Link launched. You can borrow the floating license for some time, for example, if you need to work with the application on another machine or if you do not have an Internet connection.
Products Page 8. Follow the onscreen instructions on the Web page. The Activation tool confirms your system information. When the activation is complete, a message informs you that your software has been successfully activated and the button changes to Deactivate. 9. Repeat these steps for each editing application or additional option you need to activate. 10. Once you have the license.bin file, transfer it to the system where you want to activate the product. 11.
Products Page The system asks you to browse to the dongle file (.avd) and update the product license. Once you browse to the license file, click the Update button to update the dongle license. To upgrade the license from a dongle to a software license, do the following: 1. With Avid Link open, click the Products tab. 2. Click Products and Activations. 3. Select the available software licensed product.
Products Page 4. Click Convert - a warning message appears asking if you want to continue since during the conversion the dongle information will be erased and the dongle will become deactivated. After conversion, the product is activated with the software license. Activating with iLok n This section is applicable only to Pro Tools. To activate the product, do the following: 1. With Avid Link open, click the Products tab. 2. Plug in the iLok blasted to the current product and version.
Products Page To redeem to dongle, do the following: 1. From My Account page, go to the My Products and Subscriptions page. 2. Click Show for the product you are going to activate with a dongle. Remember that it must be a perpetual license. Note that you can redeem a license to dongle only in a case, if this software code was not activated before. 3. In the list of the applications available for downloading, click the Download Dongle Updater File button. The Redeem to Dongle dialog appears. 4.
Products Page When you click Download, the Updater.avd file is downloaded. Use this to activate the product. The rest of the activation procedure is the same as if the product was initially activated with a dongle. The exact activation steps are provided in the Redeem to Dongle dialog. Deactivating Your Products To deactivate your Avid Editing Application, do the following: 1. In Avid Link, click the Products tab. 2. Find the product you want to deactivate and click the Products and Activation link.
Collaborating with Avid Link Collaborating with Avid Link Avid Link allows you to collaborate with other media professionals. Use Find Talent, Messages, and Lounges within Avid Link to connect. Messages Message your connections and receive notifications wherever you go. With the ability to message your connections right within Avid Link, it's easy to stay in touch, share ideas, and discuss projects in real time with a group of collaborators.
Collaborating with Avid Link Find Talent Avid Link makes it easy to search for and find other artists, musicians, composers, video editors, producers, mixers, filmmakers, and media professionals to collaborate with and follow. Select Find Talent to scope out the profiles of available talent, review their work, invite them to connect, and send messages about how you can work together. To find other media professionals: 1. Open Avid Link.
Collaborating with Avid Link Alternatively, if you know the name of the person you are looking for, simply enter it in the Search Community text box. Lounges Looking to meet others to get or give advice, help, or feedback? Hang out in the Lounges and start or join a conversation, exchange ideas, and contribute to discussions about products, workflows, and the industry-all in real time. You can even suggest ideas for new features-get enough “likes” and your requests could become reality.
The Avid Marketplace 3. Click to enter the specific lounge where you want to read or add to the discussion. You can either comment on existing topics or click Create Discussion to start your own topic. The Avid Marketplace You can shop the Marketplace right within Avid Link. Simply open Avid Link and click the Marketplace tab. You will have access to plug-ins, video effects, and other software or hardware to use with Pro Tools, Media Composer, Sibelius, or a third-party audio or video tool.
