Composite histogram and ChromaCurve graph: only Black Point and White Point controls appear
You can use the Composite and Luma tabs together with the Safe Color feature to ensure that your
images remain within limits. If you set the Safe Colors feature to warn you when material exceeds
composite and luminance limits, parts of the image that exceed the limit appear orange in the
histograms and you can use these warnings to guide your adjustments.
Examples of Levels Adjustments
The following illustrations show some common levels adjustments. The first example adjusts white,
black, and gray points to create a small but significant change in the amount of contrast available in
the image. The second example adjusts only the gray point to greatly increase the amount of visible
detail.
Unadjusted image (top left), adjusted image (top right), and adjustment display in the Levels tab.
This example enhances the contrast between the white building exterior and the black building
interior toward which the car is driving. The adjustment sets the input black point to 19 and the input
white point to 206, which increases the contrast range. These settings leave the entire image a little
dark and lacking in detail, so the adjustment also changes the gray point to place more of the overall
tonal range between gray and white. The final image shows strong contrast between the lightest and
darkest areas and sharp highlights around the letters in the foreground.
