1 Software Installation Thank you for purchasing Avid Motion Graphics Creation software. This guide contains information required to install and activate your AMG Creation software. It is recommended that you read through the procedures prior to starting your installation in order to familiarize yourself with the process. Additionally, instructions on how to deactivate and un-install your Avid product can be found in“Software Licensing” on page 25 of this guide.
Before Installing Before Installing To begin, please close any unnecessary windows or programs to ensure best performance. You will have to restart your computer in order to complete the installation process. It is important that you check the ReadMe on the Knowledge base to make sure your system is properly configured to work with your new software.
Installation Considerations 4. Each time you need files, media or projects from a network drive, open AMG, and browse to the /Volumes folder and select the needed drive. Installation Considerations The Avid Motion Graphics software can installed onto the system via the Avid Download Center (www.avid.com/support/downloadcenter). You can also download the software to a USB flash drive, and then install it onto your AMG Creation Station from the drive.

Installing Avid Motion Graphics Software Your software should have arrived with a USB flash drive.
Installing Avid Motion Graphics Software Installing AMG Creation on a Windows Computer This topic contains information on how to install AMG Creation application software on a Windows computer. (Windows) To install the AMG Creation software: 1. Log in to your system. 2. (Option) If you want to download the AMG Creation software to the USB drive, insert the USB flash drive into any open USB port on your system. n You can run the software installer from the USB flash drive.
Installing Avid Motion Graphics Software 6. Navigate to and double-click on the Avid_Motion_Graphics_setup.exe file. The installer splash screen appears.
Installing Avid Motion Graphics Software 7. To install Avid Motion Graphics software on your offline graphics creation workstation, select Avid Motion Graphics Offline. This begins the installation of the AMG software onto your offline graphics creation workstation.

Click the Install Avid Motion Graphics and all dependencies option to install the AMG software and all the dependent applications. n Wait for all of the components to install before continuing. After each component successfully installs, a green circle, containing a white check mark, replaces all of the red circles, containing white Xs. If a component is already installed, it is detected and the green circle with the check mark appears immediately.
Installing Avid Motion Graphics Software When all components have been installed, the Installshield Wizard for the Avid Motion Graphics application opens. 9. Click Next to continue. The License Agreement dialog box opens.
Installing Avid Motion Graphics Software 10. Follow the screen prompts accepting the defaults and the License agreement. Click Next to continue. The Destination Folder dialog box opens. 11. In the Destination Location dialog box, if you want to change the destination location, select Change..., then navigate to the location where you want to install the software. Otherwise, select Next to install the software in the default location.

Installing Avid Motion Graphics Software 12. Click the Install button to begin installing the software. The Status bar displays followed by the InstallShield Wizard Completed dialog box. 13. (Option) Select the Show Windows installer log check box to view the install log. 14. Click the Finish button. 15. (Option) If you have connected an Avid Motion Graphics Keyboard (AMGK) you may now click the Avid Motion Graphics Tools option on the installer.
Installing Avid Motion Graphics Software Installing AMG Creation Software on a Mac Computer This topic contains information on how to install AMG Creation software on a Mac computer. (Macintosh) To install the AMG Creation software: 1. Log in to the computer in which you will be installing the AMG Creation software as an OS user with administrative privileges. 2. Go to the Avid Download Center at http://www.avid.com/support/downloadcenter, and download the AMG Creation for MAC OS installer.
Installing Avid Motion Graphics Software 4. Install Avid Motion Graphics by selecting Install AMG Creation.pkg This begins the installation of the AMG software on the AMG server. The Introduction screen appears: 5. Click Continue option to go to the next screen.
Installing Avid Motion Graphics Software 6. Select your language, and read the license agreement. Then, click Continue. A dialog box opens, asking you to agree to the terms of the AMG Creation for Mac software license agreement. 7. Click Agree to continue installing the software.
Installing Avid Motion Graphics Software 8. Select the Installation Type. Do one of the following: t Click the Install button to begin installing the software in the standard destination. If this option is selected, all users of this computer will be able to use this software. t Click Change the Install Location... to change the installation location to your desired destination. If you select this option, the following screen appears.
Installing Avid Motion Graphics Software 10. Click the Continue button. You will be prompted to enter a password: 11. Do the following: a. In the Name field, type your user name. b. In the Password field, type your password. c. Click the Install Software button. The installation process begins. A summary window shows the status of the installation. When the installation is complete, you will get this message.
Installing Avid Motion Graphics Tools 12. (Optional) Click the Documentation icon to view or print any of the user, or ReadMe documentation for Avid Motion Graphics. This documentation is also available online at the Avid Knowledge Base www.avid.com/support. 13. Click Close. The installer created two folders in your Applications section: - Avid - This folder contains the AMG_Creation.app file in the AMG subfolder. - Avid Utilities - This folder contains the AvidLicenseControl.

Do one of the following: n t Navigate to and double-click on the Avid_Motion_Graphics_setup.exe file. When the installer window opens, click the Avid Motion Graphics Tools option in the list. t If the installer window is already open, click the Avid Motion Graphics Tools option in the list. In the previous illustration, AMG License Control 3.0.0 was detected and with a green check mark, shown as already installed. 2. Click the plug-in you want installed. Repeat this step for each plug-in that you want installed. After the plug-ins are installed, you can return to the main installer or exit the install.
2 Software Licensing After you have installed the Avid Motion Graphics Software you must use the Avid License tool to activate the license for your products.
What You Need to Activate the Software License What You Need to Activate the Software License The software license is provided on an Activation ID. Depending on your specific configuration, you may receive more than one Activation ID card. The card ships in a box separately from the server and, if you have purchased multiple products on the same order, it could potentially be in a box with another product that might be unrelated to the Avid Motion Graphics system.
What You Need to Activate the Software License To activate the software using the Avid License Control tool, you need the items listed in the following table. Identification Number Type Where you can find it: Activation ID The Activation ID is provided on an Activation ID and System ID card shipped with your new Avid Motion Graphics system. The Activation ID is used to activate the software license and has been linked to your System ID.

Select I am connected to the Internet and will use this computer and then click Continue. n If you select “I am not connected to the Internet and will be using another computer that is connected to the Internet” continue with “License Activation Without an Internet Connection” on page License Activation Without an Internet Connection. 5. Enter your system identification number in the System ID text box.
What You Need to Activate the Software License 6. Enter your activation identification number in the Activation ID text box. 7. Click the Activate button. The Activation tool confirms your system information. When the activation is complete, a message informs you that your software has been successfully activated and the Activate button changes to a Deactivate button. n After your Avid software is activated, the License Profile tab displays your System ID, Activation ID, and Device ID.

Follow the instructions in the Avid License Control tool, then click the Next button. n Your System ID, Activation ID, and Device ID are displayed on the Activation tab, write these numbers down to use later. These IDs are displayed in the License Profile tab after your Avid software is activated. 9. On a computer with an Internet connection, open a Web browser and navigate to http://avid.com/license. 10.

Click the Browse button and navigate to the license.bin file on your computer, then click Open. The Activation tool confirms your system information. 3 Excel/ODBC Installation in AMG Creation on Mac OS This document covers the installation and configuration for ODBC Manager, Actual ODBC Driver for Open Source Databases and Actual ODBC Driver for Microsoft Access. To use Excel spreadsheets as a data source, there are two options in AMG: n n • through Excel • through ODBC. For both, 3rd party solutions are needed. For Excel, we use the Actual Technologies ODBC driver for Microsoft Access.
To manage the connections, another 3rd party, open source application is needed called ODBC Manager. n ODBC Manager replaces the ODBC Administrator application which was omitted from Mac OS X v10.6 “Snow Leopard” and newer releases of the Mac OS.

Open your web browser and navigate to www.odbcmanager.net, and download ODBC Manager 1.0.11. 2. Install the ODBC Manager application as a usual Mac OS application 3. Connect all needed network drives and start the AMG Creation software. 4. Open the ODBC Manager application and navigate to System DNS tab. The connections will be created here. 5.
Installing Excel as a Data Source Installing Excel as a Data Source This topic contains information on how to install native Excel in AMG as a Data Source on the Mac operating system. The following limitations apply: • The Actual Technologies driver supports only *.xls (Excel 97-2004 format) • The Actual Technologies driver cannot load complex Excel files. • The Range definition is different than in Windows. You should specify the range as Sheet1 instead of [Sheet1$].

In the License Key field, type the license key for the purchased Actual ODBC driver for the Microsoft Access license key, and select OK. n You can create five (5) connections with one activation key. 6. Type the connection name, a short description and select the database (*.xls in this case) file. The Access DSN Configuration dialog box opens.
