Chapter 57: Working with Synchronization 1271
Audio Format
This display indicates the current file format for
files recorded in the session. You can change the
audio file format for all newly recorded or im-
ported (and converted) files in the session by se-
lecting a different
Audio Format option. For more
information, see “Mixed Audio File Formats” on
page 156.
Interleaved
Enable the Interleaved option to ensure that all
newly recorded or imported (and converted) stereo
or greater-than-stereo multichannel files in the ses-
sion will be interleaved audio files. For more infor-
mation, see “Interleaved Multichannel and Multi-
Mono Audio Files” on page 156.
Session Start
Use this field to specify a SMPTE start time for
your session. For more information, see “Setting a
SMPTE Session Start Time (Start Frame)” on
page 1275.
Session Length
Use this field to specify a limit for the length of the
session in timecode (between 6 and 24 hours).
Used in conjunction with the Session Start setting,
the Session Length field lets you specify the de-
sired working range for the session when
Pro Tools is slaved to an external transport (such
as with MachineControl, MMC, or Satellite Link).
If a timecode location is received outside of this
range, Pro Tools does not respond. Pro Tools re-
sponds only when a timecode location within the
range is received. This prevents untended jumps to
the end of the timeline, thus providing intelligent
handling of 24-hour timecode.
Incoming Time (Current Time)
This display indicates incoming timecode from an
external source.
Timecode Rate
The Timecode Rate setting lets you set the SMPTE
timecode rate for the current session.
Feet+Frame Rate
The Feet+Frame Rate setting lets you set the
Feet+Frame rates for sessions. Supported rates in-
clude 23.976, 24, and 25 fps.
Set this rate to match the rate of the film projector,
or the video if the film projector speed is taken into
account. For example, doing a Telecine transfer
from a 24 fps film projector to NTSC video would
necessitate the projector running at 23.976 fps.
This is regardless of whether the session is using
pull down audio or not.
Timecode 2 Rate
The Timecode 2 Rate setting lets you set a second-
ary frame rate that can be displayed in the ruler
alongside the main Timecode ruler. This lets you
reference frame rates in the Timeline that are dif-
ferent from the session timecode rate (also see
“Timebase Rulers” on page 837).
