Chapter 63: Avid Video Satellite
Avid Video Satellite is a powerful post-production
option for Pro Tools, employing a separate com-
puter running Avid Media Composer or Sym-
phony software for synchronized video playback,
capture, and conversion.
Avid Video Satellite can use either a single
Media Composer or Symphony system in a Satel-
lite configuration. Avid Video Satellite can play
full sequences and does not require a video mix-
down. Avid Video Satellite requires a
Pro Tools HD Administrator in the Satellite con-
figuration.
Media Composer or Symphony software with the
Video Satellite option can output and capture
video using the following Avid video peripherals:
Media Composer | Nitris DX
Media Composer | Mojo DX
Avid Video Satellite
Requirements
Avid Video Satellite requires the following system
components:
Avid-qualified computer
Pro Tools | Ultimate Software
HDX or HD Native hardware
Pro Tools | SYNC HD
A second Avid-qualified computer for
Media Composer or Symphony
Media Composer or Symphony System Identifi-
cation Number and serial number, or Avid Ap-
plication Key (included with Media Composer
or Symphony)
Avid video peripheral (optional; required for
high-quality video output)
Avid Video Peripherals
For high-quality frame edge-aligned playback of
HD or SD video (or 1080 HD video converted to
SD video), you must add the I/O capabilities of an
Avid video peripheral.
Media Composer supports the following Avid
video peripherals:
Media Composer | Nitris DX
Media Composer | Mojo DX
When using an Avid video peripheral, the follow-
ing is required:
An NTSC/PAL black burst generator
A tri-level sync generator (when working with
HD-capable Avid video peripherals)
