Chapter 51: Mixdown 1195
Enforce Avid Compatibility
Enable this option in the Bounce to Disk dialog to
create a bounced file with frame-accurate edits,
wrapped as OMFI (unless File Type is MXF), and
with the sample rate options limited to 44.1 kHz or
48 kHz. Dither without noise shaping will be ap-
plied to files being exported from 24-bit to 16-bit.
Add to iTunes Library
Pro Tools lets you bounce your mix to your iTunes
library using the
Add to iTunes Library option in
the Bounce to Disk dialog. When this option is se-
lected, the bounced file is copied to your local
iTunes library. You can specify the location of
your iTunes library using the new
iTunes Library
Folder
setting in the Pro Tools Operation prefer-
ences.
If the
Add to iTunes Library option is enabled when
bouncing to disk, the resultant audio file is auto-
matically imported into iTunes the next time you
launch the iTunes application. If iTunes is not in-
stalled on your computer, this option does not do
anything.
To export your mix to your iTunes library:
1 Choose File > Bounce to > Disk.
2 In the Bounce to Disk dialog, select the Bounce
Source
and set the other options.
3 Enable the Add to iTunes Library option.
4 Click Bounce.
Import After Bounce
The Import After Bounce option automatically im-
ports the newly bounced files into the Clips List so
you can place them in tracks. If your newly
bounced files are split stereo files (Multiple
Mono), they are listed together in the Clips List.
Bounce File Name
Pro Tools provides a File Name text entry field for
Bounce to Disk. In the Bounce dialog, type the File
Name you want for the bounced file. For multi-
source bounces, the entered file name is appended
with the name of the Bounce Source and a number
(incremented for each source): “<file
name>_<source name>_<n>.”
Directory
Click the Choose button to specify a different di-
rectory for bounced files than the default location.
Offline Bounce
Pro Tools provides an Offline option for Bounce to
Disk
and Bounce to QuickTime. This lets you
bounce faster-than-real-time in most cases (de-
pending on the session mixer size and DSP plug-in
complement).
The Add to iTunes Library option is only
available if the Bounce Source is set to a
mono or stereo path, and Format is set to
Mono (Summed) or Interleaved.
The Import After Bounce option is only avail-
able if the target file type and sample rate for
the bounce is the same as the file type and
sample rate of the current session, and the
target resolution (bit rate) is the same or
lower than the resolution of the session. In
addition, tracks bounced to a Stereo Inter-
leaved file cannot be automatically imported
after a bounce.
