Expanding Matching Field
Recorder Channels to New
Tracks
When working with a mono clip that is part of a
multichannel recording, you can expand that clip
(or a selected portion of it) to new tracks that re-
flect its matching channels while preserving any
edits or fades.
For example, this feature lets you easily create dif-
ferent versions of an edited dialogue track corre-
sponding to multiple channel inputs (microphones)
that were recorded simultaneously.
To expand matching field recorder channels to
new tracks:
1 In the Timeline, do one of the following:
To expand a single clip on a single track, right-
click the clip.
To expand a portion of the clips on the track,
make a selection that includes or overlaps any
number of clips, and Command-option-click
(Mac) or Control-alt-click (Windows) the selec-
tion.
To expand all of the clips on a mono track,
Right-click the track’s name plate.
2 Click the Expand Channels to New Tracks sub-
menu, and select one of the following methods
by which to expand matching field recorder
channels for the selection to new tracks:
By Match Criteria
By Timecode Only
If matching field recorder channels are available,
Pro Tools expands them (plus the channel repre-
sented in the original track) to new tracks accord-
ing to the chosen parameters.
Matching field recorder channels are mono
channels that were usually recorded simulta-
neously with the original clip (such as multi-
channel recordings made by one or more
field recorders). For information on setting
the detailed criteria that matching channels
must meet, see “Conditions for Matching
Field Recorder Channel Availability” on
page 1343.
The channel you plan to expand must be
mono.
When expanding only a portion of the clips on
a track, the By Match Criteria option will be
grayed out if there are no valid matches
found, or if the ANY option is chosen in the
Field Recorder Channels Match Criteria dia-
log and no criteria are selected.
See “Determining the Method of Expanding
Matching Field Recorder Channels to New
Tracks” on page 1347 for more information
on how each of these options expand to new
tracks.
