Duplicating and Extending the
Edit Selection
Pro Tools lets you Duplicate and Extend the Edit
selection. This can be especially useful for music
production when working with audio loops and
MIDI in Grid mode.
To duplicate and extend the Edit selection, do one
of the following:
Choose Edit > Selection > Duplicate and Extend
Selection
.
Press Command+Option+Control+Shift+D
(Mac) or Control+Alt+Start+Shift+D
(Windows).
Any track content in the Edit selection is dupli-
cated and the selection extends from the original
start time to the end of the duplicate.
Moving the Edit Selection in
Time
Pro Tools lets you move the Edit selection earlier
or later by the selection amount. You can also
move the Edit selection to the next track above or
below the current Edit selection.
To move the Edit selection earlier by the selection
amount, do one of the following:
Choose Edit > Selection > Move Edit Left.
Press Command+Option+Control+L (Mac) or
Control+Alt+Start+L (Windows).
To move the Edit selection later by the selection
amount, do one of the following:
Choose Edit > Selection > Move Edit Right.
Press Command+Option+Control+’ (Mac) or
Control+Alt+Start+’ (Windows).
Using the Edit Selection
Indicators (Start, End, and
Length)
The Edit Selection indicators at the top of the Edit
window can define precise Edit selections. Time
values for the Edit Selection indicators use the
time format for the Main Time Scale.
To make a selection with the Edit Selection
indicators:
1 Click with the Selector tool in the track you
want to select.
2 Click in the Start field at the top of the Edit win-
dow.
3 Type in the start point for the selection and press
the Forward Slash key (/) to enter the value and
automatically move to the end field.
4 Type in the end point for the selection and press
Enter to accept the value.
Numeric Entry Shortcuts for Selection
Indicators
You can use the following shortcuts for entering
values in the Edit Selection indicators:
Press the Forward Slash (/) key to cycle through
the three Edit Selection indicators.
Use Period (.) or the Left and Right Arrow keys
to move through the different time fields in each
Edit Selection indicator.
Press the Up or Down Arrow keys to increase or
decrease numerical values.
Move the mouse scroll wheel up or down to in-
crease or decrease numerical values.
