Fade and Crossfade
Preferences
You can set default fade and crossfade settings.
These settings load as your “base” settings when
you use the Create Fades command, and the Fade
to Start and Fade to End commands.
To set the fade and crossfade preferences:
1 Choose Setup > Preferences and click the
Editing tab.
2 Set the Pre-Roll and Post-Roll times for Fade
previews.
3 Click Fade In and set the default shape for fade-
ins when using the Smart Tool, then click
OK.
4 Click Fade Out and set the default shape for
fade-outs when using the Smart Tool, then click
OK.
5 Click Crossfade and set the default shape for
crossfades when using the Smart Tool, then
click
OK.
6 Click OK.
Fade Presets
Pro Tools provides five Fade Presets so that you
can easily store and recall your most commonly
used fade settings. You can also save and import
Fade Preset settings.
To store a Fade preset:
1 Configure the Fades dialog as you like.
2 Command-click (Mac) or Control-click (Win-
dows) the Preset button where you want to store
the current Fades dialog settings.
To recall a Fade preset:
Click the Preset button that contains the settings
you want to recall.

To apply the default fade or crossfade
shape, make an Edit selection and press
Command+Control+F (Mac) or Con-
trol+Start+F (Windows).

Press Control+1–5 (Mac) or Start+1–5
(Windows) to recall the corresponding pre-
set.
