5 Troubleshooting 5 Troubleshooting This chapter describes general malfunctions and specific error messages, and suggests remedies. The error messages are listed by operating system. Always make sure that you are using the latest driver software release for your AVM Mobile ISDN-Controller M2. The latest drivers can be downloaded free from the AVM Data Call Center (ADC). They are found in the directory \Cardware\M2\\\.
5 Troubleshooting Please note that after the test program has run, CAPI is no longer available (you may see the error message “Common ISDN API Version 2.0 is not installed”). Reload the AVM Mobile ISDN-Controller M2 using the appropriate program for your operating system, i.e. ibase.bat for DOS or M2 Load in Windows 3.x. 5.2 General Malfunctions The AVM ISDN-Controller is not detected or not initialized. If so, check for conflicts in the allocation of system resources (interrupt levels and I/O addresses).
5 Troubleshooting • Is your fax or data application software compatible with CAPI 2.0? Conventional modem applications will not support the AVM Mobile ISDN-Controller M2 directly. A Fossil driver is necessary to interpret the program’s modem commands. Your mobile phone dials, but does not connect. • If your GSM mobile phone dials the desired number normally (as shown in its LCD display) and then displays the message “Network disconnect”, then the problem is probably in the GSM network.
5 Troubleshooting The ISDN PBX must not alter this coding. You are unable to connect to a fax machine at an ISDN PBX extension. The PBX at the remote site is probably not correctly configured for Group 3 fax service. Contact the administrator of the remote PBX system. GSM: You are unable to receive incoming calls. Your computer doesn’t answer incoming fax calls. Check whether your fax software automatically activates a server module. This is a program that registers with CAPI 2.
5 Troubleshooting – MS-DOS installation information in INF files named OEM*.inf. Open these INF files in Notepad by double-clicking on them, and find the one that refers to the AVM Mobile ISDNController M2. This file is from an earlier installation. Note the exact name of this file in the title bar, then close it and delete it. Do not delete other manufacturers’ OEM.inf files! Appendix A: Technical Information on GSM Operation A.3 Environmental Influences on Data and Telefax Communications over GSM A basic characteristic of Mobile ISDN by AVM is its high reliability. Nonetheless, mobile telephone networks, as compared with the fixed ISDN network, may sacrifice a certain degree of quality for the sake of mobility. The error-correcting data link layer (RLP, Radio Link Protocol) integrated in the Mobile ISDN-Controller guarantees errorfree transmission over the GSM link (BER<10-8).
Appendix B: The Applications Interface CAPI 2.0 Appendix B: The Applications Interface CAPI 2.0 Common ISDN API (CAPI) is a standardized interface that provides applications with simple access to basic rate and primary rate ISDN adapters. Applications that build on this standard interface use uniform mechanisms for communication over ISDN connections, and do not need to adapt to the peculiarities of different manufacturers’ hardware.
Appendix B: The Applications Interface CAPI 2.0 ISDN market. The first version of CAPI concentrated on the German national ISDN protocol 1TR6, since an international standard for ISDN protocols was not yet available. In 1990 development was complete, and a CAPI Working Group was formed by ISDN application and hardware manufacturers, large-scale ISDN users, user groups and the German PTT, at that time DBP Telekom. Common ISDN API Version 1.
Appendix B: The Applications Interface CAPI 2.0 B.
Appendix C: Support for Multiple Subscriber Numbers Appendix C: Support for Multiple Subscriber Numbers Since the adoption of DSS1 or “Euro-ISDN”, all new ISDN lines installed in Germany are Euro-ISDN lines. What are MSNs? Several terminal devices may be connected to a single ISDN line. ISDN operators typically assign several numbers to each line: in Euro-ISDN these are called “Multiple Subscriber Numbers” or MSNs.
Appendix C: Support for Multiple Subscriber Numbers EAZ=0, it will respond to all MSNs configured in the system by MSN.EXE. 2. Load the ISDN-Controller. 3. Run MSN.EXE to assign an MSN to the EAZ configured in Step 1. Use the following syntax: msn -s= where is the EAZ and is the desired MSN. msn –s5=1234567 When this is done you may begin working with the application. The assignment of a given EAZ to an MSN can be canceled either by running MSN.
Appendix C: Support for Multiple Subscriber Numbers Other Parameters Two more command line parameters are supported: msn -c Addresses a certain Controller if several are installed in the PC. For example, msn -c1 -s4=1234567 maps EAZ 4 to the MSN 1234567 for Controller number 1. msn -w Suppresses all screen output. When the ISDN-Controller’s driver software is removed from memory, all MSN mapping is deleted.
