1.2 The AVM Mobile ISDN-Controller M2
The AVM Mobile ISDN-Controller M2 fits in the
computer’s PCMCIA slot. Cables are supplied to connect
it to a fixed ISDN line or to a GSM mobile phone.
The AVM Mobile ISDN-Controller M2 is an active
ISDN-Controller. It owes its exceptional capabilities to an
internal RISC processor (an IMS T400 transputer). One
MB of memory in the card makes it possible to offload
communications control and protocol software to the
card, so that the notebook’s processor and memory are
not burdened.
The AVM Mobile ISDN-Controller M2 driver software
is available for the operating systems MS-DOS, Windows
3.x, Windows 95, Windows 98 and Windows NT, and
provides the industry standard application interface
Common ISDN API (CAPI) Version 2.0. This software
interface, adopted by the European Telecommunications
Standards Institute (ETSI), supports the use of all ISDN
applications that conform to CAPI 2.0 or CAPI 1.1.
The protocol governing signaling communication between
the ISDN operator’s digital switching equipment and the
ISDN-Controller is called the D channel protocol. Deut-
