Important! Online help is available on every page within the AXIS 70U/7000 Web interface. This is of particular relevance when configuring the unit and should be used as a first point of reference for any administration queries. The help system is stored internally in the AXIS 70U/7000.
AXIS 70U/7000 User’s Guide Product Overview Product Overview The AXIS 70U and AXIS 7000 Network Document Servers, referred to in this document as the AXIS 70U/7000, are easy solutions for instant digital document distribution over networks. Faster, cheaper and safer than fax, traditional mail and courier. The total cost of ownership is favorable since the distribution relies upon the fixed IP network and not fax lines, postage or courier.

AXIS 70U/7000 User’s Guide Physical Description Indicators Network Power Status Busy Indicator Indicator Indicator Indicator Status Indicator The Status indicator flashes during startup and remains lit when the AXIS 70U/7000 is ready for use. If the Status indicator turns off, this may indicate an error. Busy Indicator The Busy indicator turns on when the AXIS 70U/7000 is allocated for use and remains on during the scanning process.
Physical Description AXIS 70U/7000 User’s Guide Connectors AXIS 70U USB Connector Keyboard Connector Network Connector Power Supply • A USB connector for connection to the scanner. AXIS 7000 SCSI Connector Keyboard Connector Network Connector Power Supply • A SCSI-2 connector for connection to the scanner. AXIS70U/7000 Keyboard Connector A mini-DIN connector for connection of a standard PC-Keyboard. Refer to the AXIS 70U/7000 User’s Manual for further details.
AXIS 70U/7000 User’s Guide Basic Installation Basic Installation Installation Summary The AXIS 70U/7000 is installed in the following stages: • Checking the Hardware Inventory. • Connecting the AXIS 70U/7000 to a scanner. • Connecting the AXIS 70U/7000 to the network. • Assigning an IP address to the AXIS 70U/7000. • Verifying the installation. Checking the Hardware Inventory Unpack and check all the items using the following list. Contact your dealer if anything is missing or damaged.
Basic Installation AXIS 70U/7000 User’s Guide Connecting the Scanner to the AXIS 70U/7000 Caution! • Check that the power supply included with your AXIS 70U/7000 is marked with the correct mains voltage. AXIS 70U 1. Switch off the scanning device and disconnect the AXIS 70U external power supply. 2. Connect the USB cable to the USB connector on the AXIS 70U. 3. Connect the USB cable to the scanning device. AXIS 7000 1. Switch off the scanning device and disconnect the AXIS 7000 external power supply.
AXIS 70U/7000 User’s Guide Basic Installation The tri-colored Network indicator displays: Flashing Yellow Indicating network activity on a 10MB Ethernet network. Flashing Green Indicating network activity on a 100MB Ethernet network. Red Indicating that the unit is not correctly connected to the network. Assigning an IP Address to the AXIS 70U/7000 Follow the instructions below to set the IP address from the Control Panel.

Administrator(s) are granted with high-level privileges that are denied to the ordinary user(s). The following settings must be specified by the administrator before the AXIS 70U/7000 can be used for distributing scanned documents on your network: Network settings: Define the parameters for TCP/IP and SMTP protocols.

E-mail SMTP • Defines the IP addresses or DNS names for primary and secondary e-mail servers, connection timeout and e-mail reply address.

This section describes all services that can be made available to a user, namely: • Sending to destinations. • Adding temporary e-mail destinations. • Viewing the images. • Specifying a sender. Note: Administration instructions for setting user privileges are provided in Specifying System Settings, on page 18.

So, be careful not to transmit images to an unwanted destination! 5. Optionally, press Menu to change the default scanning parameters. Using the AXIS 70U/7000 AXIS 70U/7000 User’s Guide Using a Standard PC Keyboard Connecting a standard keyboard to your AXIS 70U/7000 will allow you to quickly search for any destination names within the resident list. You can do this by simply typing in the first couple of characters of the destination name you wish to search.
