Introduction
The instructions in this guide assume a general knowledge of computer installation procedures, familiarity
with cabling requirements, and some understanding of USB devices.
NOTE: Notes provide additional information that could be useful.

Your Ranger 2212 is packaged with:

The Ranger 2212 is a unique extender product that provides power over the Cat 5 link from the LEX unit to the REX unit.
The system does not require a power adapter at the REX to operate. The provided 24V, 1A power adapter must be
connected to the LEX unit for normal operation.
Requirements
To complete the installation, you will also require the following items that are not included with the product:
• USB1.1or2.0compatiblecomputer(hostcomputer)withaUSBcompliantoperatingsystem
• USB1.1or2.0compatibledevice(s)
• Cat5UnshieldedTwistedPair(UTP) cable with two RJ45 connectors (if using surface cabling),
OR, Cat 5 cabling with two information outlets and two Cat 5 patch cords with RJ45 connectors (if
using premise cabling)
All references to Cat 5 cable in this document represent the minimum requirement. Category 6 or better or STP cable
may be substituted.
About the Ranger 2212
The Ranger 2212 incorporates Icrons patented ExtremeUSB® technology, enabling users to extend beyond
the standard 5m cable limit for USB peripheral devices. With the Ranger 2212, USB devices can be located up
to 100 meters from the computer.
The Ranger is composed of two individual units: the LEX unit and the REX unit.
The LEX and REX units may be hot to the touch when operating at or near the high end of the
certified temperature range.
