RoHS Restriction of Hazardous Substances, a European directive dictating materials that may not
be used in the manufacture of certain products. Materials restricted include: Lead, Mercury,
Cadmium, Hexavalent Chromium, Polybrominated Byphenyls, and Plybrominayed Diphenyl
Ether.
ROJ The designation to Remove Outer Jacket.
Slitting The designation to separate insulated parallel Jackets.
Straight Blade Refers to a NEMA device with straight prongs.
Stripping The designation of the removal of the insulation or jacket from a conductor/Jacket.
Schuko Plugs and receptacles of the Germany conguration (EU1-16P and EU1-16R, respectively)
manufactured to the CEE 7/7 standard. Plugs that are manufactured to this standard have a
slot in the face which allows the plug to mate with French and Belgian receptacles (FR1-16R).
This conguration is commonly utilized throughout most of the continental Europe.
SJT UL cord type designation. Service Junior Thermoplastic jacket used for hard service
applications.
SJTO UL cord type designation. Service Junior Thermoplastic Oil resistant jacket used for hard
service applications.
SPT UL cord type designation. Service Parallel Thermoplastic.
SVT UL cord type designation. Service Vacuum Thermoplastic jacket not for use in hard service
applications.
Temperature Rating The maximum temperature at which insulation will maintain its integrity.
Terminal A terminal is the point at which a conductor from an electrical component, device or network
comes to an end and provides a point of connection to external circuits
Twist-Locking Refers to a NEMA device with circular prong that locks the connection in place. Once
pushed into the receptacle, the plug is twisted and its now-rotated blades latched into the
receptacle. To unlatch the plug, the rotation is reversed.
UL Underwriters Laboratories (UL) is a testing agency for the United States.
VDE VDE Pruf und Zertizierungsinstitut (VDE) is the certication agency for Germany.
Voltage The force or “push” driving electrical energy through a conductor or Jacket that can be
compared to the pressure of water in a pipe.
