ASCII Format Data Transmission
TherearetwoASCIIformats.Theoneuseddependsuponwhichmeasurement
modesareselected.FortheALLmeasurementmode,eachdatabyteispresented
inaneightbitASCIIformatwhichconveysthestatusoffourconsecutivechannels
(fourconsecutivebeams).Eachsubsequentbyteconveysthestatusofthenextfour
channels,untilthestatusofallchannelsisreported.
TheallowabledatavaluesaretheASCIInumbers0to9andtheASCIIlettersAtoF.In
thetableshowninFigureA-1,the0representsaclearchannel,andthe1representsa
blockedchannel.
TheothermeasurementmodesusethreeASCIIbytestorepresenttheirvalues.For
example,ifMeas1is FBB andMeas2isLBB,andthemeasuredvaluesare6and
120,andthecontrollerIDisA,thenthedatastringisasfollows:

Thecontrollerallowssuppressionofcleardata.Thismeansthatdataissentonetime
whenthearrayiscompletelyclear(i.e.,whennobeamsareblocked),andnofurther
dataissentuntiloneormorebeamsisblocked.
Binary Format Data Transmission
Therearetwobinaryformats.Theoneuseddependsuponwhichmeasurementmodes
areselected.FortheALLmeasurementmode,eachdatabyteconveysthestatusof
eightconsecutivebeams.Eachbitofthebyteisdirectlyrelatedtothestatusofan
individualchannel.
Asanexample,ifthefirsteightbeamsareasfollows...

opticalchannels,thentherewouldbe4databytesrepresentingthestatusofall32
opticalchannels.Theothermeasurementmodesusetwobytestorepresentthe
measuredvalue.Thefirstofthetwobytesisthemostsignificant.Asanexample,the
valueof262fortheFBB measurementmodeiscodedbythetwo-bytenumber: 
0x01 0x06.
