2. Press and release the power button again for 2 seconds to turn on your NOOKcolor.
Performing a Hard Reset
If you have assigned a 4-digit passcode to protect your NOOKcolor and you no longer remember the passcode, you
can perform a hard reset to clear your NOOKcolor’s memory and restart the device.
A hard reset is a more aggressive way of turning o your NOOKcolor. It turns o your NOOKcolor, but it also
erases some information about the state of your NOOKcolor. NOOKcolor software uses this information to to keep
track of recent activities.
NOTE: After you perform a hard reset, you will have to re-register your device to link it to your Barnes &
Noble account. When unregistered, your NOOKcolor is unable to access your Library, your Daily Shelf,
or your account for purchasing new books or periodicals.
NOTE: If someone other than you performs a hard reset on your NOOKcolor, they will not be able to access
your Library or your account, because your NOOKcolor will no longer be registered.
To perform a hard reset, do this:
1. Press and hold both the Home key and the power button for 5 seconds.
A Reset Mode screen appears.
2. Slide the lock icon to the right to unlock the device.
3. Select reset to delete all content and settings and restore to default.
A dialog box appears, asking you to confirm that you want to reset your NOOKcolor.
4. Tap OK.
A dialog box appears, telling you to please wait while your NOOKcolor resets.
5. Once your NOOKcolor has finished resetting itself, follow the instructions that appeared earlier in this chapter
for registering your NOOKcolor.
Low Power
If you turn on your NOOKcolor when its battery charge is almost depleted, a warning appears on the screen, sug-
gesting that you begin charging your NOOKcolor before trying to use it.
If the battery is depleted, your NOOKcolor will shut down until it has been suciently recharged.
Charging Recommendations
Your NOOK contains a lithium ion battery. To maximize battery life:
• Avoid fully discharging the battery. Charge your NOOKcolor after several hours of use or when you see the low
charge alert, rather than continuing to use it until it turns itself o.
• Avoid high temperatures if possible for charging, use, and storage. For more information, see “Temperature
Ranges.”
