Pinch to Zoom
In everyday language, pinching means bringing your fingers together, but in the world of touch-screen tablets and
smartphones, there are two kinds of pinching: pinching in and pinching out.
“Pinching in” is what we generally think of as pinching. Place two fingers—most people use their thumb and forefin-
ger—about an inch apart on the screen. Slide them together to “pinch in.”
When you pinch in on an image, the screen zooms out. Its as though you were taking the sides of an image and pinch-
ing them together to make the image smaller—which is what you see when an image zooms out.
“Pinching out” is the opposite gesture. You start with your thumb and forefinger close together and then slide your
fingertips apart.
Pinching out zooms in on the image being touched. Its as though you were using your fingertips to stretch the spot
you were touching, making it bigger. Making an image bigger is what happens when you zoom in.
To sum up: there are two kinds of pinching on your NOOKcolor. Pinching in zooms out. Pinching out zooms in.
Pinching to zoom in or out.
