To change the setting of the Screen Orientation option, do this:
1. On the Setting screen, tap Screen.
2. On the Screen Settings page, tap the Orientation menu choice to check or uncheck its checkbox.
• When the checkbox is checked, the option is turned on. Your NOOKcolor will change its screen orien-
tation when rotated.
• When the checkbox is unchecked, your NOOKcolor remains in “portrait mode” even when your hold
rotate your NOOKcolor and hold it sideways.
Adjusting the Brightness of the Screen
To adjust the brightness of the screen, do this:
1. On the Setting screen, tap Screen.
2. On the Screen Settings page, tap the menu choice Brightness.
A dialog box appears with a slider bar.
3. Drag the slider bar left or right to dim or brighten the screen.
4. Once the screen is displaying the brightness you want, tap OK.
Adjusting the Screen Timeout
When your NOOKcolor has been setting for some amount of time and no activity has taken place (e.g, you haven’t
tapped the screen or pressed any buttons), your NOOKcolor turns o its screen to conserve power. When that hap-
pens, you can turn on your NOOKcolor again simply by pressing the Home button.
By default, your NOOKcolor waits 2 minutes before turning o the screen.
To adjust the screen timeout for your NOOKcolor, do this:
1. On the Setting screen, tap Screen.
2. On the Screen Settings page, tap the menu choice Screen timeout.
A dialog box appears with four menu choices:
• 2 minutes
• 5 minutes
• 15 minutes
• 1 hour
3. Tap on the menu choice listing the amount of time you want your NOOKcolor to wait.
The dialog box closes. Your change takes eect right away.
Configuring Sound Settings
On the Sounds settings page, you can mute or unmute your NOOK color. You can also set the speaker volume for
media such as music and video and for notifications, such as low-battery warnings.
To configure sounds on your NOOKcolor, do this:
1. On the Settings screen, tap Sounds.
YourNOOKcolor displays the Sounds settings page.
