UPON DELIVERY: When your refrigerator has been delivered, you will need to wait approximately 8 hours before turning it on. The fluid of the compressor installed in the appliance will need time to settle. PLEASE DO NOT PLUG IN ANY EARLIER THAN THIS! NOTE: THERE CAN BE AN ODOUR WHEN YOU FIRST SWITCH ON THE APPLIANCE. IT WILL VANISH WHEN THE UNIT STARTS COOLING. We recommend that you have the Refrigerator delivered near to where you plan to install it so that this fluid can settle.
Turning on your Baumatic RETRO FRIDGE-FREEZER: PLEASE FAMILIARISE YOURSELF WITH THE DISPLAY PANEL AT THE TOP OF THE UNIT (ILLUSTRATED BELOW). THERMOSTAT • The thermostat automatically settles the temperature inside the appliance. Turn the knob from setting ‘0’ to setting ‘5’ to obtain increasingly colder temperatures. • To obtain the optimum temperature inside both the refrigerator and the freezer, turn the thermostat to a middle setting (see Fig.9, above).
UNDERSTANDING your Baumatic RETRO Refrigerator NOTE: When you first switch on the appliance, allow 24 hours for it to cool down to the desired temperature. During this time, DO NOT open the door often or place a lot of food inside the unit. * If the appliance is switched off then switched back on again after a short period, the compressor will start up again after approximately half-an-hour. This is part of the normal operation of the appliance. MAKING ICE CUBES Pour water into the Ice cube tray.
USING your Baumatic RETRO FRIDGE: Reminder: Allow the unit time to settle after delivery. If your plug and power socket are now behind the fridge and you still need to move the unit into place, be especially careful: Remember to leave a safe distance between the back of the fridge and the wall. o You switch your fridge OFF by turning the thermostat knob to position ‘0’. NOTE: When you first switch on the appliance, allow 24 hours for it to cool down to the desired temperature.
ARRANGING FOOD IN YOUR FRIDGE • To reduce humidity and the consequent increase of frost, NEVER place liquids in unsealed containers in the refrigerator. Frost tends to concentrate in the coldest parts of the evaporator. In time, the unit will need more frequent defrosting if too much humidity develops inside it. • NEVER place warm food inside the refrigerator. Warm food must be allowed to cool at room temperature.
DEFROSTING YOUR REFRIGERATOR WILL NOT REQUIRE DEFROSTING AS DEFROSTING OCCURS AUTOMAIALLY. HOWEVER, YOU WILL HAVE TO DEFROST THE ICE BOX (FREEZER COMPARTMENT) WHEN THE FROST IS 3-5 MM THICK OTHERWISE YOUR APPLIANCE WILL NOT WORK EFFICIENTLY. TO DEFROST YOUR ICE BOX, REMOVE ALL THE FOOD FROM WITHIN AND WRAP IN NEWSPAPER, BEARING IN MIND THAT THE INEVITABLE RISE IN TEMPERATURE WILL MEAN THAT THEY WILL HAVE TO BE EATEN SHORTLY THEREAFTER.
CLEANING / MAINTENANCE NOTE: Before attempting to clean your Fridge-Freezer, UNPLUG IT and make sure you do the following: 9 Remove the baskets and the ice-cube tray. 9 Leave the door open. 9 In order to collect water deposits, take out the bottom drawer and soak up the water using a sponge. 9 Clean the inside of your Fridge-Freezer using a solution of soda bicarbonate in warm water (1 tablespoon Bicarbonate to 2 litres of water). 9 Clean the condenser (back of unit) with a broom once a year.
