Conﬁguring the ARN for Netboot and

Directed Netboot

The following commands conﬁgure the ARN for netboot and directed netboot:

• Use the i

fconﬁg command to conﬁgure the router initial IP interface to the

network. You need this information to complete the procedure in “Continuing

with Netboot” in Chapter 2.

• Use the

bconﬁg command to specify the location and name of the ARN

software image and conﬁguration ﬁle. You need this information to complete

the procedure in “Continuing with Directed Netboot” in Chapter 2.

Contact your network administrator for additional assistance in determining the

appropriate

ifconﬁg command and bconﬁg commands that you need for the ARN

at your site. (Your network administrator has information on these commands in

Conﬁguring Remote Access.)

Using the ifconﬁg Command

A router interface cannot communicate in an IP network without an IP address.

Because an ARN netboots over one of its serial, DSU/CSU, Ethernet, or Token

Ring links, the netboot interface must have a valid IP address.

You use the

ifconﬁg command to do the following:

• Conﬁgure the router’s initial IP interface to the network. (The initial IP

interface should be a serial interface if you are using EZ-Install.) You also use

the same procedure to conﬁgure other serial interfaces for the netbooting

procedure.

• Conﬁgure Ethernet or token ring interfaces for the netbooting procedure.
