Glucose
tablets
A sugar tablet that is most commonly used to
increase blood glucose in episodes of low blood
sugar (hypoglycemia)
Health Care
Provider (HCP)
An individual who practices medicine and is
authorized by the state to perform duties within
the scope of their practice. This may include, a
Nurse Practitioner, Physician’s Assistant or CDE
This may include but is not limited to a Nurse
Practitioner, Physician’s Assistant, CDE, or MD.
Hyperglycemia
A reaction occurring when blood glucose is above
normal levels.
Hyperosmolar
Hyperglycemic
Nonketotic
Syndrome (HHS)
A rare condition where very high blood glucose
levels are seen with severe dehydration. The
body tries to rid the body of the large amounts
of glucose by passing it into the urine.
Hypoglycemia
A reaction occurring when blood glucose is below
normal levels.

Inadvertently
Without intention; accidentally.
Increment
A unit of measure. As in 2 unit increments of
insulin.
