BEHR PREMIUM® Interior/Exterior Direct-To-Metal Gloss paint is 100% styrene acrylic and provides excellent corrosion and ash
rust resistance. Engineered for excellent adhesion to a variety of properly prepared or primed residential and light commercial
metal surfaces. Intended for use in conditions of repeated heavy abrasion, including mechanical wear and repeated scrubbing with
industrial solvents, cleaners and scouring agents. Provides a durable gloss nish that withstands tough elements on both interior
and exterior surfaces. Suitable for use in USDA inspected facilities

SURFACE PREPARATION:
All surfaces must be clean, dry, free of rust, dust, dirt, chalk,
oil, grease, wax, polish, mold and mildew stains, loose and
peeling paint and all other foreign substances.
UNPAINTED METAL SURFACES: Ferrous Metals: Use
SSPC-SP2. Remove all rust and mill scale using sandpaper,
ferrous metal, abrasive blasting, or other abrading methods
to create a prole on the metal’s surface. Remove any
residue, and clean the metal by scrubbing the surface with a
solvent such as mineral spirits or acetone. Bare metal must
be coated the same day it is cleaned.
Ferrous and Non Ferrous Metals: Use SSPC-SP1. All oil
lm on new metal must be removed before it is painted.
Remove oil lm with a solvent such as mineral spirits or
acetone and remove any residue. Sand the surface with
sandpaper, ferrous metal, or by using a chemical etcher.
Clean by scrubbing the surface with a solvent such as
mineral spirits or acetone and remove any residue.
Previously Painted Metal Surfaces: Remove all
loose and peeling paint and all other foreign substances.
Clean any dirt and grease by scrubbing the surface with a
solvent such as mineral spirits or acetone and remove any
residue. Suciently sand and dull all smooth, hard, dense or
glossy surfaces before coating for maximum performance.
It is recommended to test a small inconspicuous area for
adhesion one week prior to application. If test area shows
insucient adhesion, additional abrasion or complete
removal of the previous coating may be required. All exterior
alkyd surfaces should be primed prior to painting.
WARNING! If you scrape, sand or remove old paint,
you may release lead dust. LEAD IS TOXIC. Contact the
National Lead Information Center at 1-800-424-LEAD or
visit www.epa.gov/lead.
RECOMMENDED PRIMER/SYSTEMS:
UNPAINTED METAL SURFACES:
Ferrous Metals: Self priming on properly prepared
substrates. For best results, use a MPI #107 certied
rust-inhibitive, water-based primer, such as
BEHR PREMIUM PLUS® Exterior Multi-Surface Primer &
Sealer No. 436. To properly prepare the uncoated surface,
please refer to the surface preparation instructions.
Ferrous and Non-Ferrous Metals: Use a MPI #134
certied water-based primer for non-ferrous surfaces, such
as BEHR PREMIUM PLUS Exterior Multi-Surface Primer &
Sealer No. 436. To properly prepare the uncoated surface,
please refer to the surface preparation instructions.
PREVIOUSLY PAINTED METAL & GLOSSY SURFACES:
Self priming on properly prepared substrates. Use a MPI
#134 certied water-based primer for galvanized surfaces,
such as BEHR PREMIUM PLUS Exterior Multi-Surface Primer
& Sealer NO. 436. To properly prepare the uncoated surface,
please refer to the surface preparation instructions.
