WHERE TO USE: Properly prepared interior, smooth unﬁnished,

unsealed or stripped wood surfaces, including ﬂoors.

SURFACE PREPARATION

(Proper surface preparation is required)

• Surface must be dry, clean, and free of dirt, grease, glue, and

existing coatings before staining.

• Sand the wood in the direction of the grain using ne-grit

sandpaper (#150) until smooth.

• Remove all sanding dust.

• To ensure uniform acceptance of stain color and beautiful results,

pretreat the wood with BEHR

Water-Based Pre-Stain Wood

Conditioner following label directions.

PRODUCT PREPARATION AND COLOR TESTING

• Stir stain thoroughly before and occasionally during use.

Do not thin.

• Always test stain on an inconspicuous area of the wood to

verify desired color.

STAIN APPLICATION

• Apply stain in the direction of the grain with a brush or clean cloth.

• Allow the stain to penetrate 5-10 minutes to achieve desired

color. The more time the stain is allowed to penetrate, the richer

and darker the color will be.

• Remove stain that has not absorbed into the wood with a clean

cloth. Wipe in the direction of the grain, while blending light and

dark areas to obtain uniform color. Do not allow stain that has not

penetrated into the wood to dry on the wood surface.

• To darken the color, apply a second coat after 1 hour, repeating

directions above. Do not sand between coats of stain.

WARNING IRRITANT CONTAINS: ETHYLENE GLYCOL, CARBON BLACK AND

ISOTHIAZOLONE. MAY CAUSE AN ALLERGIC SKIN REACTION AND DAMAGE TO ORGANS (KIDNEY)

THROUGH PROLONGED OR REPEATED EXPOSURE. MAY CAUSE EYE, SKIN, NOSE AND THROAT

IRRITATION. AVOID CONTACT WITH SKIN AND EYES AND AVOID BREATHING VAPORS AND SPRAY MIST.

WEAR EYE PROTECTION AND PROTECTIVE CLOTHING. USE WITH ADEQUATE VENTILATION. To avoid breathing

vapors and spray mist, open windows and doors or use other means to ensure fresh air entry during application and drying. If you

experience eye watering, headaches or dizziness, increase fresh air. If properly used, a respirator (NIOSH-approved for organic vapor

with P series particulate pre-ﬁlter) may offer additional protection; obtain professional advice before using. A dust mask does not provide

protection against vapors. Avoid contact with eyes and skin. Wash thoroughly after handling. Close container after each use. FIRST AID:

If you experience difﬁculty in breathing, leave the area to obtain fresh air. If continued difﬁculty is experienced, get medical

assistance immediately. In case of eye contact, ﬂush immediately with plenty of water for at least 20 minutes and get

medical attention; for skin, wash thoroughly with soap and water. If swallowed, get medical attention immediately.

CAUTION: KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN-DO NOT TAKE INTERNALLY.

CLEAR FINISH APPLICATION

• Allow stain to dry for a minimum of 1 hour (dry time may be

extended due to high humidity, low temperatures, or

inadequate ventilation).

• Complete your project by applying a BEHR Clear Protective Finish,

following label directions.

• Recommended nishes include BEHR Fast-Drying Water-Based

Polyurethane or BEHR Water-Based Spar Urethane. Slight

ambering may occur when these clear nishes are applied over

light-colored stains. Always spot test on an inconspicuous area to

ensure satisfactory results.

DISPOSAL

• For disposal of empty containers and unused product contact your

household refuse collection service.
