Access Point (AP) List Tab
Toviewalistofallavailablenetworksinyourarea,selectthe“AP
List”tab.Inthewindow,youwillbepresentedwithalistshowingyou
theavailablenetworks.
(a) Network Name
Thiscolumnshowsyouthenameofthewirelessnetworkthatis
available.Ontheleftsideofthenetworknamearesmalliconswhich
tellyoucertainthingsaboutthenetwork.Abluecirclearoundthe
networkicon(e)indicatesthatyouarecurrentlyconnectedtothis
network.Asmallpadlock(f)nexttoanetworknameindicatesthat
thisnetworkissecured(eitherbyWEPorWPAencryption).Itisnot
possibletoconnecttoasecurednetworkwithoutthepropernetworkkey.
(b) Band
Thiscolumnshowsyouwhichbandthenetworkisoperatingon.
“G”indicatesthatthisis802.11gbasednetwork.“B”indicatesthisis
an802.11bbasednetwork.
(c) Signal
Thiscolumnindicatesthesignalstrengthofthewirelessnetwork.
Typically,thestrongerthesignalstrength,thecloserthenetworkisto
yourphysicallocation.Thelowerthesignalstrength,thefurtheraway
fromthenetworkyouare.

WhenyouhighlightanetworknameintheAPlistbyclickingonit
onetime,thedetailedinformationaboutthatnetworkwillbeavailable
here.Youwillseewhattypeofnetworkitis(AccessPointorPeer-to-
Peer),whatchannelthenetworkisoperatingon,statusofencryption
(security)OnorOff,andbelow“Surveyedat:”youwillseetheMAC
addressofthatwirelessnetwork.
How to connect to a wireless network in the Access Point (AP) list
TherearetwowaystoconnecttoanetworkthatappearintheAPlist.
1. Highlightthenetworknamebyclickingonitonetime,thenclick
the“Connect”buttononthebottomofthewindow.
or
2. DoubleclickanetworknamethatisintheAPlist.Thiswill
connectyoutothenetworkautomatically.
Note:ifthenetworkyouareattemptingtoconnecttoisusing
encryption,youwillbepromptedtocreateaprofilewiththe
encryptionsettings.
How to update the Access Point (AP) list information
Pressingthe“Refresh” (g)buttonwillmaketheUSBadapterscanthe
“air”foravailablewirelessnetworks.Thelistwillbeupdated.
Profile Tab: Creating a Profile
UsingProfilesallowsyoutosaveconfigurationsfordifferentwireless
networks.Forinstance,ifyouuseyourAdapteratyourplaceof
workandalsoatyourhome,yourwirelessnetworksettingsmaybe
differentforeachlocation.Profilesletyoustoresettingsforeach
locationandnamethemforeasyidentification.Youcanquickly
changefromoneprofiletoanotherprofilewithouthavingtoremember
theparticularsettingsofacertainnetwork.
