PI N ( Personal I de nt ifica t ion  N um be r )  
Securit y code t hat prot ect s t he phone against  
unauthorised use. The PI N is supplied by t he 
ser vice provider wit h t he SI M card. I t m ay be a 
four t o eight-digit num ber and can be changed, 
as required. 
PUK ( PI N  Unblock ing Key)  
Securit y code used t o unlock the phone when 
an incorrect  PI N has been ent ered t hree t im es 
in succession. The eight - digit  num ber is supplied 
by t he service provider wit h t he SI M card. 
Roam ing 
Use of your  phone when you are out side your 
hom e area ( when t r aveling for ex am ple) . 
SI M ( Subscr ibe r  I de nt ifica t ion  M odule)  
Card cont aining a chip wit h all t he inform at ion 
required t o operat e t he phone ( net w or k and 
m em ory inform at ion, as w ell as t he subscriber ’ s 
personal dat a) . The SI M card fit s into a sm all slot  
on the back of t he phone and is prot ect ed by t he 
bat t ery. 
SM S ( Sh or t  M e ssa ge Serv ice)  
Network service sending and receiving m essages 
to and from  another subscriber  wit hout  having t o 
speak to t he correspondent . 
The m essage creat ed or r eceiv ed ( up t o 160 
charact ers long)  can be displayed, received, 
edit ed or sent. 
Soft Keys 
Keys m ar ked on t he phone, the pur pose of 
which:  
•  Varies accor ding to t he funct ion that  you 
are currently using 
•  I s indicat ed on t he bot t om  line of t he 
display j ust  above t he corresponding key  
Voice  M ail 
Com put erized answering service that  
aut om at ically  answer s your calls when you are 
not  av ailable, plays a gr eet ing ( optionally  in your 
own voice)  and records a m essage.

Radio-based Sy st em s t hat allow t r ansm ission of 
telephone or data signals t hrough the air without 
a physical connect ion, such as a m et al w ir e
