Figure 3-103: Top of Descent Window
The Top of Descent window has the following fields:
• Target Ident: Shows the active waypoint identifier from the
active flight plan. The Target Ident selection will have a
select list that shows the waypoints from the active flight
plan. If there is not an active flight plan, but a Direct To is
active, the select list does not show.
• TOD Enable: Turns the TOD function on or off.
• Target Altitude: If the waypoint is an airport, the target
altitude field shows the airport elevation plus 1000 ft. If the
waypoint is not an airport, the target altitude defaults to the
target waypoint elevation. Select the Target Altitude field to
use the numeric entry keyboard to insert a different value
• Descent Rate: The descent rate is in feet per minute. The
default is 500 feet per minute. Select the Descent Rate field
to use the numeric entry keyboard to insert a different value.
In order to calculate the correct point, the following parameters are
assumed: 1) The rate of descent is constant during the descent. 2)
The groundspeed is constant during the descent.
The descent profile is shown in the following diagrams.
