1. Learning the Parts of Your New Airgun
Learning the names of the parts of your new
airgun will help you to understand your owner's
manual. Use this manual to increase your
airgun enjoyment.
2. Operating the Safety
A. To Put the Airgun "ON SAFE:"
• Locate the safety directly in front of the trigger.
• Push the safety from the left side all the way in. (Fig. 2). The safety is not on
unless it is pushed all the way in and the red ring around the left side of the
safety is not showing.
B. To Take the Airgun "OFF SAFE:"
• Push the safety from the right side all the way in. When you can see the
RED ring around the left side of the safety, the airgun is "OFF SAFE" and can
be fired.
Like all mechanical devices, an airgun safety can fail. Even when the safety is "ON
SAFE", you should continue to handle the airgun safely. NEVER point the airgun at
any person. NEVER point the air gun at anything you do not intend to shoot
3. Installing and Removing the AirSource Cylinder
NOTE: You should use only Crosman or Game Face brand 88 gram AirSource CO
2
cylinders. They are made to fit the
Model AS392 airgun. Other brands of CO
2
cylinder may not fit properly and if you force them into place it may result in
injury to you or damage to your airgun. Never try to force any CO
2
cylinder into or out of place. We recommend you do not store your
airgun with a CO
2
cylinder on it. If you know you will not be using
your airgun for an extended period of time, empty the CO
2
cylinder
and remove it from the airgun.
A. Installing the AirSource Cylinder
• Make sure the air rifle is "ON SAFE" (See Section 2A).
• Make sure the air rifle is unloaded (See Section 4C).
• Point the air rifle in a SAFE DIRECTION.
• Remove protective cap from AirSource CO
2
cylinder
• Screw the AirSource cylinder in to the piercing assembly until hand tight. (Fig. 3)
• Open and cock the bolt by pulling the bolt handle up and back until you hear one click; the tip of the bolt should be
visible in the breech. (Figure 4A)
• Without loading any ammunition, return the bolt handle to the locked position by firmly pushing the bolt handle all the
way forward and down. DO NOT jam the bolt forward. This will damage your air rifle.
• Point the airgun in a SAFE DIRECTION, take "OFF SAFE" (See Section 2B) and pull the trigger. If the airgun does not
make a popping noise after pulling the trigger, the CO
2
is not being discharged. In that event, you will have to repeat
the process above, tightening the AirSource cylinder a little more, pointing the airgun in a SAFE DIRECTION and
pulling the trigger until there is a popping noise, which will mean the airgun is releasing CO
2
with each pull of the
trigger.
• Return the safety to the "ON SAFE" position (See Section 2A).
• Place re-usable protective skin on the AirSource CO
2
cylinder.
• Your gun is now charged and ready to use in a safe manner.
B. Removing the AirSource Cylinder
• Put the airgun in the "ON SAFE" position (See Section 2A).
• Make sure the airgun is unloaded (See Section 4C).
• Turn the AirSource CO
2
cylinder slowly counterclockwise to allow any remaining CO
2
gas to escape.
IMPORTANT: Avoid contact with the escaping CO
2
, as it can cause frostbite. Take special care if you are removing an
AirSource cylinder which is full, as much more CO
2
gas will need to be released.
• Remove and save the re-usable protective skin from the AirSource cylinder.
4. Loading and Unloading Pellets
Your AS392 air rifle is specially equipped with dual-power control. Depending on where the bolt is cocked your rifle will
shoot at two different power and velocity settings. Low power can be used when you
would like to get more consistent shots- such as when you are shooting at paper
targets. High power can be used when you want more impact power, and are not
concerned with shooting for longer periods of time.
A. To Load for Low Power Firing
• Put the air rifle "ON SAFE" (See Section 2A).
• Gun must be charged with CO
2
in order to fire the airgun. (See Section 3A)
• Point the air rifle in a SAFE DIRECTION.
• Open and cock the bolt by pulling the bolt handle up and back until you hear one
click; the tip of the bolt should be visible in the breech. (Figure 4A)
• Place one pellet; nose first, into the loading port (breech) (Fig. 4A) This is a
single shot pellet rifle. Load no more than one pellet at a time.
• Lightly push the pellet into the barrel by closing the bolt and returning the bolt
handle to the locked position by firmly pushing the bolt handle all the way forward
and down. DO NOT jam the bolt forward. This will damage your air rifle.
• Be sure the bolt is fully closed and locked into position before firing. If it is not
closed and fully locked, the pellet may not be discharged.
B. To Load for High Power Firing
• Put the air rifle "ON SAFE" (See Section 2A).
• Point the air rifle in a SAFE DIRECTION.
• Open and cock the bolt by pulling the bolt handle up and all the way back. (Fig. 4B)
• Place one pellet; nose first, into the breech (Fig. 4B) This is a single shot pellet rifle.
load no more than one pellet at a time.
• Lightly push the pellet into the barrel by closing the bolt and returning the bolt handle to the locked position by firmly
pushing the bolt handle all the way forward and down. DO NOT jam the bolt forward. This will damage your air rifle.
• Be sure the bolt is fully closed and locked into position before firing. If it is not closed and fully locked, the pellet may
not be discharged.
C. Unloading Pellets
1. Unloading by firing your airgun
• The most common way to unload pellets is to fire your airgun in a SAFE DIRECTION following Section 5 on aiming
and firing safely.
NOTE: Obviously, the airgun must be charged with CO
2
to fire but remember, do not store your airgun with a CO
2
cartridge
in it. (See Section 3A)
2. Unloading without firing
• You can unload your airgun without firing it.
• Put airgun "ON SAFE" (See Section 2A).
• Remove the CO
2
cartridge
• Open and cock the bolt by pulling the bolt handle up and back until you hear one click; the tip of the bolt should be
visible in the breech. (Figure 4A)
• Insert a ramrod of the proper size into the barrel starting at the muzzle. (Fig. 7) The barrel could be damaged if the
proper sized ramrod is not used.
• Push the jammed pellet into the pellet loading port (forward of the bolt) (Fig. 7.)
• Do not reuse that pellet.
5. Aiming and Firing Safely
A. Aiming and firing the Airgun
• Always point your airgun in a SAFE DIRECTION.
• Follow the instructions for inserting CO
2
(Section 3A) and loading (Section 4A)
• You and others with you should always wear shooting glasses to protect your eyes.
• Do not shoot at hard surfaces or at the surface of water. The pellet may bounce off or
ricochet and hit someone or something you had not intended to hit.
• Always choose your target carefully. For example, you may wish to shoot at paper bulls-
eye targets that are attached to a safe backstop such as the Crosman 850 Target Trap.
A heavy blanket should be hung behind the Target Trap to prevent ricochet should you
miss the backstop.
• The air rifle is correctly aimed when the front sight blade is positioned exactly in the center of the notch of the rear
sight.
• The top of the front sight blade should be even with the top of the notch in the rear sight. The bull’s-eye should appear
to rest on the top of the front sight.
(Fig. 5)
• When you are sure of your target and backstop, and the area around the target is clear, take the airgun "OFF SAFE"
(See Section 2B) and pull the trigger to fire.
B. Sight Adjustment
• The rear sight may be adjusted to shoot higher or lower (elevation) Turn the elevation screw clockwise to make the
pellet hit higher on the target. Turn the elevation screw counterclockwise to make the pellet hit lower on the target
(Fig 6).
• The rear sight may also be adjusted to shoot right or left (windage). To make the pellet hit further to the left on the
target, loosen the windage screw on the right side of the sight and tighten the windage screw on the left side of the
sight. To make the pellet hit further to the right on the target, loosen the windage screw on the left side of the sight and
tighten the windage screw on the right side of the sight (Fig 6)
• Other optics may be mounted using the 3/8" dovetail grooved receiver. To sight in these optics, follow the instructions
enclosed with the optic.
6. Removing a Jammed Pellet
• Put the air rifle "ON SAFE" (See Section 2A).
• Empty and remove the CO
2
cylinder (See SECTION 3B).
• Open the bolt to the full open position (See Section 4C).
• Insert a ramrod of the proper size into the barrel, starting at the muzzle. (Fig. 7)
The barrel could be damaged if the proper sized ramrod is not used.
• Push the jammed pellet into the pellet loading port (forward of the bolt) (Fig. 7)
• Do not reuse that pellet.
• If you are not able to unjam your air rifle by following this procedure, take no
further action. An Authorized Service Station will unjam your air rifle (no cost
during the warranty period).
7. Maintaining Your Air Rifle
• DO NOT use petroleum distillate based oil or solvent and DO NOT over-oil as
this can cause damage to your air rifle. Both the barrel and tube are made of a
rust resistant, metal alloy and require no special treatment. Other external metal
surfaces should be wiped with a lightly oiled cloth after each use.
• Periodically place one drop of oil on the bolt o-ring (Fig 8).
• If the accuracy of your air rifle falls off, run a firm but free fitting patch through the
barrel. Be sure to use a ramrod of the proper size that will not damage the
barrel.
• Tampering with the air rifle or attempts to change the air rifle in any way may
make it unsafe to use and will void the warranty.
• If you drop your air rifle, check to see that it works properly before you use it again. If anything seems changed, like a
shorter or weaker trigger pull, this may mean worn out or broken parts. Call the
factory for assistance before using your air rifle again.
8. Reviewing Safety
• Never point the airgun at any person or at anything you do not intend to shoot.
• Always treat the airgun as though it is loaded and with the same respect you
would a firearm.
• Always aim in a SAFE DIRECTION. Always keep the muzzle of the airgun
pointed in a SAFE DIRECTION.
• Always keep the airgun on safe until you are ready to shoot.
• Always check to see if the airgun is "ON SAFE" and unloaded when getting it
from another person or from storage.
• Always keep your finger off the trigger and out of the trigger guard until ready to shoot.
• You and others with you should always wear shooting glasses to protect your eyes.
• If your reading or prescription glasses are not safety glasses, make sure you wear shooting glasses over your regular
glasses.
• Use .22 caliber (5.5 mm) pellets only. Never reuse ammunition.
• Do not shoot at hard surfaces or at the surface of water. The pellet may bounce off or ricochet and hit someone or
something you had not intended to hit.
• Place the backstop in a location that will be safe should the backstop fail.
• Your backstop should be checked for wear before and after each use. All backstops are subject to wear and will
eventually fail. Replace your backstop if the surface is worn or damaged or if a ricochet occurs.
• Do not attempt to disassemble or tamper with your airgun. Use an Authorized Service Station. Using unauthorized
repair centers or modifying the function of your airgun in any way may be unsafe and will void your warranty.
• Always keep your CrosBlock trigger block in place when storing this airgun. Store airgun in a secure location. (See
CrosBlock instructions packaged with this airgun for assistance)
• Before you store your airgun, make sure that it is unloaded, not charged, and that the airgun is "ON SAFE."
