Getting started Depending on the model of your nScreen, the appearance may be different from the illustrations shown in this manual. Package contents Getting your nScreen ready for use 1. For details about what should be included in the package, refer to the Product Specification label on the product carton.

6. Performing initial setup Turning your nScreen off To turn your nScreen off, do one of the following. • Click Start > Shut Down. • Press the Power button, and select Shut Down. Press the Power button to start up your nScreen, the Power button indicator lights up in green. You can then follow the onscreen instructions to complete the initial setup. • Your nScreen i91/i221 series work best with the operating system pre-installed for you.
Detaching the monitor base In case that you need to detach the base from the monitor, refer to the following procedures. 1. Shut down your nScreen completely. Disconnect the power adapter. 2. Turn the nScreen upside down with the display faces forward, and place it on a soft clean cloth. Be sure that the top of monitor is leaned against the wall and the back is also supported to prevent from moving or falling. 3.
Expanding the capabilities of your nScreen 8 Connect USB peripherals to the USB port of your nScreen. Note that there is one direction only to make the connection. Incorrect direction will cause damage to the device. Connect an earphone to the audio output jack to output sounds. Insert a Memory Stick, Memory Stick Pro, SD, or MMC memory card following the direction indicated on the card to exchange files. Connect a microphone to the microphone input jack to record sounds.
Access local area network (LAN) by connecting a network cable to the LAN port of your nScreen.

You can replace the existing memory module of your nScreen from here. For more information about replacing the memory module, the limit of maximum memory, or the types of BenQ certified memory modules for your nScreen, refer to "Replacing the memory" on page 36. (2) 12 Cable clip You can route the cables via the cable clip.

Power button indicator (1) Anti-theft Kensington lock slot Attaches an anti-theft Kensington lock and cable to this slot to help prevent possible theft. The location of this lock may vary by model. (7) nScreen handset lock slot Connects the handset to the nScreen via the handset holder. nScreen handset comes with select models.
Customizing your nScreen Before you start using the nScreen, you can customize the settings of the nScreen to have a enjoyable experience using the nScreen. Depending on the operating system pre-installed on the nScreen, there may be different procedures to customize your nScreen. Using the magnifying glass Your nScreen features a magnifying glass. A magnifying glass helps you see the details of certain areas or objects without changing the resolution of whole screen.
Adjusting the screen brightness Adjusting the volume Press the brightness buttons at the right side of the nScreen to adjust the screen brightness. Switch the volume switch (which is also the Power button) to adjust the volume. For more information on settings, go to Start > Help and Support in Windows XP. Using sound effects Depending on your purchased model, your nScreen comes with different programs that help achieve desired sound quality, and thus brings you an enjoyable listening experience.
When an audio or video file is selected to be played, SRS Sound is activated automatically. • To use the physical keyboard, refer to the Help file in the program or Start > Help and Support. • To use the on-screen keyboard, double-click on the desktop. Click the keys on the virtual keyboard to enter corresponding characters or activate designated functions. Using the gadgets • The Senior Mode ( Click ) is recommended for the elderly. to apply the sound effect to the audio/video file.
Using the nScreen USB handset (optional) Depending on the purchased model, your nScreen may come with a handset that supports making and receiving VoIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol) calls via Skype. VoIP refers to the communication technology that delivers voices over the Internet, which may reduce your communication costs considerably. 2. Secure the holder with one screw. Refer to the following procedures to attach the handset to the monitor.
3. Turn over the nScreen to the front, and place the handset on the holder. 1 2 4. Connect the USB plug of the handset to a USB port on the nScreen. The handset is now properly attached to your nScreen and ready for use. For information on how to use the nScreen handset, refer to the user manual in the accompanying handset kit.
Using nScreen in Windows XP Using built-in wireless connectivity (WLAN; select models only) With the built-in wireless connectivity of your nScreen, you can access other wireless network enabled devices (such as Access Point network stations, Notebook computers, Personal Digital Assistants, or digital projectors) wirelessly without the constraints of network cables.
3. Double-click and select View Available Wireless Networks. A list of available wireless networks will be displayed. there will be a successful message showing that you have connected to the network. • To connect to some networks that require security authentication, you may have to undergo another authorization process and enter username and password. For details, please consult your network administrator. • To disable WLAN manually in Windows XP, right-click in the notification area and select Disable.
Using the built-in webcam Your nScreen comes with a built-in 1.3 megapixel webcam on the top front of the monitor, above the screen. With the webcam, you can capture still images, record videos, and chat online. Using WebCam Companion 3 "WebCam Companion 3" features four modules below that helps you get the most out of your webcam. Activating WebCam Companion 3 To launch WebCam Companion 3, select Start > All Programs > ArcSoft WebCam Companion 3 > WebCam Companion 3 Utility.
Options and settings in the Main menu screen differ by module. For more information, refer to Help topics in "WebCam Companion 3 Utility", by clicking (at the upper right corner) > Application Help, or pressing the key. Switching to different modules On the top left corner of the Main screen in any module, there are two icons that allow you to switch to another module easily. By default, image and video files are saved under My Documents > WebCam Media > Capture.
Photo Booth You can select and personalize the select frames added to your pictures. The Photo Booth module provides you with the pose detection function that detects your movement and takes pictures automatically once you hold the pose. To activate this function, click . You can manually take a picture as well by clicking . By default, the framed picture is saved under My Documents > WebCam Media > Photo Booth.
Viewing pictures using AirFrame Your nScreen features AirFrame, a program that allows you to view the pictures stored on your nScreen, or collected in several web albums on different photo sharing sites. AirFrame works closely with You Got Photo (http://www.yougotphoto.com/) though. Pictures shared online must be delivered via You Got Photo, and you need to obtain a You Got Photo account to sign in AirFrame to view these pictures. 3.
Using BIOS setup BIOS (Basic Input/Output System) is a layer of software, called firmware, that translates instructions from other layers of software into instructions that the nScreen hardware can understand. The BIOS settings are needed by the nScreen to identify the types of installed devices and establish special features. BIOS settings are specific to your nScreen hardware. Do NOT change existing BIOS settings unless you are sure they need to be changed, and are aware of the consequences.
To run BIOS setup, press the key immediately when the BenQ logo appears on the screen during system startup. The logo shows up on the screen for only a few seconds, so you must press the key at the time. The BIOS setup main screen will appear as follows. • The right column of the menu contains Help information about the current menu selected. When a menu item is highlighted, more detailed information is given.
Main menu Security menu The Main menu contains the basic configuration settings of the system and shows some system information, such as the BIOS version, CPU type and speed, and the system memory, etc. The Security menu contains the security settings, which safeguard your system against unauthorized use. • System Time: allows you to set the time of the system. Type in the value and then press , or + to change the next value.
• Use or to select a device, and then press <+> to move it up or <-> to move it down. • To exclude or include a device in the "Boot priority order" list, press the key. • To select a boot device manually, press the key when the BenQ logo appears on the screen during system startup. The Boot Menu will appear. Use the up and down arrow keys (K, L) to select a boot device, and then press to confirm. Exit menu The Exit menu displays ways of exiting BIOS setup.
Recovering your system using QDataTrove in Windows XP Important: It is strongly recommended to create Factory Recovery CD/ DVD immediately once your nScreen is ready for use. Refer to "Creating a Factory Recovery CD/DVD" on page 33 for details. Introducing QDataTrove Your nScreen may come pre-installed with QDataTrove depending on your purchased model. QDataTrove is an application that allows you to back up your system, restore your system, or burn system image and bundled applications/drivers into discs.
Launching QDataTrove You can launch QDataTrove either from Windows Preinstallation Environment (Windows PE) or Windows XP. Launching QDataTrove from Windows PE only allows you to access partial functions of QDataTrove. To utilize the full functionality of QDataTrove, launch this application from Windows XP instead. Launching QDataTrove from Windows PE: 1. Start your nScreen. 2. During system startup, press the + keys when you see "Press Alt + F10 to enter QDataTrove 3...
2. Click the button to select System Drive Backup - Backup to Disc. 3. A confirmation message appears. Click Yes to restart your nScreen, and it will enter Windows PE automatically to make a system backup image. 4. After backup finishes, the system will boot into Windows XP automatically. A Create User Recovery CD/DVD window appears on the screen. a. Select a disc type from the Disc Category drop-down menu. b. Click OK to proceed. • To use this function, your nScreen must come with a CD/ DVD burner.
2. Click the button to select Full System Restore - Factory Default Settings. 3. A dialog box asking whether you wish to adjust the size of disk partition appears. • If you select "Yes", all programs you installed or data you saved on both the C: drive and the D: drive will be erased. • If you select "No", all programs you installed or data you saved on the C: drive will be erased. However, data on the D: drive will not be affected. 4.
• To view information about the applications and drivers that are bundled with your nScreen. 3. Follow the remaining on-screen instructions to complete the operation. Creating recovery discs To use this function, your nScreen must come with a CD/DVD burner. If your model does not come with a CD/DVD burner, use an external CD/DVD burner instead if you wish to create discs. Depending on your purchased model, your nScreen may come with bundled applications and software programs.
Creating a User Recovery CD/DVD Creating Bootable USB flash Disk You can use QDataTrove to create recovery discs that include your own backup system image file. You can use QDataTrove to create a bootable USB flash disk to recover your system to the factory settings. 1. Click the button to select Create User Recovery CD/ DVD. 2. Select a disc type from the Disc Category drop-down menu, and then select the source of your system image file in Source Image. Click OK to proceed. 3.
Protecting your nScreen from viruses and other security threats Your nScreen may come pre-installed with an anti-virus software, which can help you avoid unexpected destruction of your precious data in the nScreen and keeps your privacy against any unauthorized access from other computers. The anti-virus software protects your computer against Internet threats, such as viruses, Spyware, hackers, and spam.
Replacing the memory You can replace the existing memory module with a highercapacity one. Before you upgrade or replace memory, please check on the BenQ web site to determine the module which can be used, or contact BenQ distributor or customer service center. It is recommended that you take your nScreen to the BenQ distributor or customer service center for the upgrade or memory replacement. 2. Pull out the back cover from the bottom as illustrated.
3. Release the existing memory module by pushing aside the memory holders, and remove the memory. • Ground yourself to your nScreen with professional grounding equipment like an anti-static wristband, or touch the metal surface on the inside of your nScreen to discharge any static electricity. 4. Align the new memory module with the slot, and then insert it. When inserting, pay attention to the direction of the memory module. 5. Gently push the free edge downwards until the module locks into place.
6. Align the back cover to the lock slots at the top. 7. Push the back cover gently as illustrated until it locks into place. Connect the power adapter. When you start the nScreen, it will automatically test and configure the new memory. It is recommended that you go into BIOS to load setup defaults after replacing the memory. For details, refer to "Using BIOS setup" on page 25.
Installing a hard disk Depending on your purchased model, your nScreen may not come with a hard disk. If you intend to install one, you can contact BenQ distributor or Customer Service to check the compatible hard disks that can be used, and refer to the following procedures. alignment. Incorrect direction will cause damage to the device. It is recommended that you take your nScreen to the BenQ Customer Service for the hard disk installation. Extra charge may be required if necessary.
4. Secure the bracket with 2 silver screws provided. To secure the screw, a small Phillips head screwdriver is required. 6. Push the hard disk rightward to the edge of the hard disk bay. 7. Secure the hard disk with 1 black screw provided. 5. Slide the hard disk with bracket into the hard disk bay at the back of your nScreen. 8. Replace the back cover as instructed in Step 6 and 7 in "Replacing the memory" on page 36.
FAQ and troubleshooting The chapter describes situations that you may encounter during use of the nScreen, along with basic troubleshooting steps. If you are not able to resolve the issue, contact a nearest BenQ service center for assistance immediately. Power I have pressed the Power button, but my nScreen cannot start up. Check the Power button indicator. • If it is not lit up, your nScreen is not being supplied by power from an external power source via the power adapter.
Disable to disable WLAN to reduce interference of different network connection modes. What is a Wireless LAN (WLAN)? A WLAN is a type of Local Area Network (LAN) that uses high frequency radio waves rather than wires to communicate and transmit data among nodes. It is a flexible data communication system implemented as an extension to, or as an alternative for, a wired LAN within a building or campus I have a problem setting up wireless network.
Closing software programs that are not necessary helps your system performs more efficiently. • Prevent background software programs from loading. As software programs load the small icons in the notification area located at the lower right corner of the desktop, they will be running in the background and each one consumes valuable system resources. You can follow the steps below to prevent application programs from running when Windows launches: 1. Press + R to display the Run dialog box. 2.
Defragment function takes all the scattered bits of program data and groups them back together in the front of the drive. 1. Click Start > My Computer. 2. Right-click the hard disk's icon and select Properties. 3. Click the Tools tab and then the Check Now button. 4. Check all checkboxes in the dialog that follows. 5. Click Start. 6. Restart your nScreen. It may take a long time to complete. To run Disk Defragmentation in Windows XP: 1. Close all running software programs. 2.

Display There is nothing visible on the screen. Check the Power button indicator. • If it is not lit up, no power is being supplied to the nScreen. Connect the power adapter and restart the nScreen. • If it flashes in amber, the nScreen has entered Sleep mode in order to conserve power. You can press the Power button to resume from Sleep mode. • If it lights up in green, the nScreen is being supplied normally with power and is powered on. The screen's brightness may have been set too low.

Safety information about the power adapter • Use only the power adapter supplied with your nScreen. Use of another type of power adapter will result in malfunction and/ or danger. • Do not use the adapter in a high moisture environment. Never touch the adapter when your hands are wet. • Allow adequate ventilation around the adapter when using it to operate the device. Do not cover the power adapter with paper or other objects that will reduce cooling.
