See Preparing the Mounting Structure: I-Beam for instructions.
Big Ass Fans does not recommend mounting the fan to a fabricated
I-beam.
Do not mount the fan directly to an I-beam without the upper mount,
extension tube, and lower yoke.
The I-beam must be part of the existing building structure.
Install spacers if the flange thickness exceeds 3/8” (10 mm).
For an angled I-beam or pitched roof, the beam flange width must
be 5” to 9-7/8” (127 to 251 mm).
See the instructions included with the Z-Purlin Kit.
Purlin length: ≤ 30 ft (9.1 m)
Purlin spacing: ≤ 5 ft (1.5 m)
Purlins must be made from minimum 14 gauge steel.
The angle iron length must be ≤ 5 ft (1.5 m) and 1 in. (25 mm) less
than the distance between purlins.
Angle iron W x H x T = 3” x 3” x 1/4” (76 x 76 x 6 mm)
See the instructions included with the L-Bracket Kit.
Beam thickness up to 14-3/8” (365 mm).
The installer must supply suitable 1/2”-13 Grade 8 mounting
hardware.
See Preparing the Mounting Structure: Bar Joists for instructions.
The installer must supply angle irons and suitable 1/2”-13 Grade 8
mounting hardware.
Do not install the fan from a single purlin, truss, or bar joist.
Angle iron spans should not exceed 12 ft (3.7 m).
The angle irons must be fastened to the roof structure at each end.
Do not use beam clips on angle irons.
