What the symbols mean Signal level Comes on steadily when your handset is within range of the base unit. It flashes if you go out of range. Intercom call Appears when you make an intercom call to another handset. Memory Appears when you press the MEMORY button to store a number in memory or to make a call to a stored number. Ringer Off Indicates the handset ringer is turned off. Caller ID (CLIP) Flashes when you have received new call/s. On steady when there are only old calls in the calls list.
Read these notes first Connection and conditions for use: You can connect this phone to a direct exchange line (DEL) or to an approved compatible private exchange (PBX). Do not connect the Big Button Combo as an extension to a payphone. The ringer equivalence number (REN) of all instruments (phones, fax machines, modems, etc.) connected to an exchange line must not add up to more than 4, otherwise one or more of them may not ring and/or answer calls correctly.

Installation and set-up 5 Switch on power at the mains socket Make sure the mains socket is switched on if you want to use the cordless handset or the speakerphone - they will not work without electrical power 6 Plug the charger pod’s mains adapter into a 100-240 V AC, 50/60 Hz mains socket, with the switch on the socket set to OFF 7 Switch on power at the mains socket 8 Fit the battery pack in each handset A. Installation and set-up 5 Charge the battery pack for 15 hours before you use the cordless handset Before you use the handset for the first time, it is important that you charge the batteries fully. You will hear a ‘beep’ when the handset is correctly positioned on the charging cradle. Leave the handset on the charger pod for 15 hours. To keep the batteries charged, whenever you don’t need to use the cordless handset (such as overnight, or when you go out), leave it on the charger pod.
BASE TELEPHONE Making and answering calls While using the base telephone - when you’re connected to the telephone line, the IN USE light flashes; when you’re connected on a speakerphone call, the SPEAKERPHONE light is also on. To make a call 1 Lift the corded handset or press the SPEAKERPHONE button.

CORDLESS HANDSET Making and answering calls When you make or answer a call using the cordless handset, the display shows the call’s duration in minutes and seconds. When you press the SPEAKERPHONE button you can listen without holding the handset to your ear. The handset’s speakerphone You can press the SPEAKERPHONE button any time during a call to switch the speakerphone on and off; but you must press the TALK button to end a call.
CORDLESS HANDSET Last Number Redial Making and answering calls To make a repeat call to any one of the last three numbers you dialled: 1 Press the Last Number Redial/P button è The last number you dialled is shown on the display.
CORDLESS HANDSET Making and answering calls During a call, to adjust the volume in the cordless handset’s earpiece or speakerphone: Earpiece volume 1 Press the VOLUME button è The display shows the current volume level (1 to 5 ) as a number of small circles 2 Press the VOLUME button repeatedly to cycle through the volume levels (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 1, 2, etc.) è The cordless handset will stay at this volume level until you change the volume again.
Transferring calls between the base telephone and the cordless handset You can transfer calls backwards and forwards between the base telephone and cordless handset, and you can also make intercom calls between them. From base telephone to cordless handset When you have a call in progress on the base telephone: 1 On the base telephone, press and hold the PAGE button until you hear a beep and a background tone è The call is put on hold hold for 5 seconds. Transferring calls To page the cordless handset This is useful if you can’t find your cordless handset. » When the base telephone is idle (not on a call), press and release the PAGE button è The cordless handset rings with a special tone. If you have more than one cordless handset registered to your base, they will all ring. » On the cordless handset, press any button or numbered key You’ll need to do this on all ringing handsets. If you don’t press a button, the ringing will carry on for 30 seconds.
CORDLESS HANDSET Memory dialling You can store up to 10 numbers in each cordless handset’s memory, in memory locations 0 to 9. Each number can have up to 24 digits. To store a number Make sure the handset is idle (not connected on a call). 1 Press the MEMORY button and hold it for about 2 seconds until the symbol flashes on the display with a cursor (small dash) flashing above it 2 Key in the number you want to store If you key in any wrong digits, you can press the MUTE/DEL from the display.
CORDLESS HANDSET To make a memory call Memory dialling 1 Press the MEMORY button 2 Key in a memory location number (0 to 9) to display the number in that memory location. If the number is longer than 10 digits, press the button to see more, and the LEFT RIGHT to go back 3 To delete a number from memory or Press the TALK or SPEAKERPHONE button to dial the number You can delete a number by simply storing a new number in the same location.
CORDLESS HANDSET Caller Display If you subscribe to this feature from your service provider, you can see the phone numbers of people calling you, before you answer. The Big Button Combo will store the numbers of the last 20 calls so that you can call them back later.
Caller Display CORDLESS HANDSET To return a call » To store a Caller Display record in memory 1 While the number is shown on the display, press the MEMORY button and hold it for about 2 seconds until the symbol flashes on the display 2 Edit the number, if necessary, then press the MEMORY button again. 3 Key in the memory location number (0 to 9) è You will hear a ‘beep’ to confirm that the number is stored, then the display returns to standby mode.
CORDLESS HANDSET Multi-handset use If you have a Big Button Combo Twin, Triple, Quad or Quin system, you will already have up to five cordless handsets. You can also buy spare cordless handsets and charger pods separately. Altogether, you can have up to five cordless handsets registered to the base unit, as numbers 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5.
CORDLESS HANDSET To make an intercom call 1 Multi-handset use To make a call to another cordless handset Press the INTERCOM button è The display shows flashes 2 HS-_ and the symbol Key in the number of the other handset (1, 2, 3, 4 or 5) è The other handset rings and its display shows your handset’s number. When the other handset user presses the TALK answer, you can talk to him/her.
CORDLESS HANDSET Multi-handset use When you have both an outside call and an intercom call in progress, you can shuttle from one to the other, like this: To shuttle between two calls » Press the INTERCOM button to speak to each in turn, putting the other on hold è While you’re talking to the outside caller, the ‘Phone’ symbol is steady on the display and the ‘Intercom’ symbol flashes.
Multi-handset use Conference calls To set up a three-way conference between yourself, an outside call and an intercom call with another cordless handset: 1 Either make or answer an outside call 2 Press the INTERCOM button and key in the number of the other handset The other user answers your call by pressing the TALK 3 button Press the INTERCOM button and hold it for about 3 seconds è When your conference call is connected, both the ‘Phone’ and ‘Intercom’ symbols are steady on your display.
CORDLESS HANDSET Registering new handsets have a Big Button Combo Twin, Triple, Quad or ! IfQuinyousystem, all handsets are already registered to your base unit - the first as handset 1, the second as 2, etc. You won’t need to re-register them unless you have a problem. • The handset subscription has been removed from the base unit (e.g. for re-initialization). • You want to subscribe a different handset to this base unit.
Registering new handsets You may need to remove a cordless handset from a base to allow another handset to be registered: To remove (de-register) a handset 1 Press and hold the CID/RIGHT button for 2 secs. until both the battery and the antenna icon flashes 2 Press and hold the MUTE/DEL button for 2 secs. è The display then shows PIN 3 Enter the pin code (0000).
Troubleshooting The Big Button Combo must be serviced by trained engineers. NEVER attempt any repairs or adjustments yourself - you could make the problem worse and invalidate the Guarantee. ALWAYS check first that: n You have followed all the steps listed on pages 7 to 11 to install and set up your digital cordless telephone. n All connectors are firmly inserted in their sockets. n Mains power to the base unit is switched on at the socket.
Troubleshooting “When I press keys on the cordless handset, nothing happens.” Make sure the batteries are fitted in your handset. If the Battery Level symbol on the display shows ‘low’, recharge the batteries. The keypad may be locked. Look for a on the display. If it’s there, unlock the keypad by pressing and holding the #/LOCK button. “When I press keys, digits appear on the display, but I can’t make a call” Try moving the handset closer to the base telephone.
Troubleshooting “When I press the TALK or SPEAKERPHONE button, I hear a strange loud noise.” This is caused by interference. Disconnect the mains power lead from the back of the base telephone, then wait for 30 seconds before reconnecting it. “I hear ‘beeps’ from my cordless handset while I’m on a call.” You may be going out of range of the base telephone. Move closer, or your call may be cut off. “The Caller Display feature isn’t working.
Troubleshooting Batteries “The handset‘s batteries are running low within an hour or two.” Before you first use the handset, you should have left it on the charger pod for up to 15 hours to charge the batteries fully. Repeat this. “The CHARGE light on the charger pod does not come on.“ Clean the battery charging contacts with a dry cloth. “I try to recharge the batteries, but I still get a warning that they are low.” You need to replace the batteries.
Troubleshooting If the fault persists... Disconnect all other instruments connected to the same line as the digital cordless telephone and try to make a call. Disconnect the base unit from the telephone line and plug a different phone into the master telephone socket. Try making a call. If this works, the line is OK. If the call does not work, and you are using a two-way socket adapter, remove it and plug a telephone directly into the socket. If the call now works, the adapter may be faulty.
Guarantee and service The Big Button Combo is guaranteed for 12 months from the date of purchase shown on your sales receipt. The Guarantee does not cover damage by misuse or negligence, or by excessive voltages - for example, faults on the telephone line, or lightning. Please keep your sales (till) receipt — this is your guarantee. You should also keep the original packaging material. While the unit is under Guarantee 1 Disconnect the base unit from the telephone line and the mains electricity supply.
