5 INSTALLATION AND SETUP To use SPEAKEASY 300, first insert a valid SIM card supplied by your network provider. The SIM card contains your subscription information, your mobile telephone number, and a memory where you can store phone numbers and messages. 5.1 Install SIM card 1. Make sure that the phone is switched off. 2. Push the back cover of the phone upwards until a snap sound is heard. Slide the back cover towards the top of the phone and remove it. 3.
Note: Handle the SIM card with care, do not bend or scratch it. If the SIM card is incorrectly inserted or is damaged, the screen will display “No SIM Card”. If the screen displays “SIM Card Damaged”, please contact your network provider to get it repaired or replaced. 5.2 Insert Battery 1. Align the golden contacts of the battery with the corresponding connectors in the battery compartment. 2. Push the battery down until it clicks into place. 3.
5.3 Charge Battery The SPEAKEASY 300 is powered by a rechargeable battery. New batteries are only partially charged when shipped. Before you start using your phone, you need to charge the battery for at least 12 hours. A new battery reaches its optimum performance only after two or three complete charge and discharge cycles. 1. Connect the supplied charger to a wall outlet. 2. Connect the lead from the charger to the SPEAKEASY 300.
Tips: If your SPEAKEASY 300 is battery is completely drained, it may take a while before the charging indicator starts scrolling. If a replacement battery is being used for the first time or if the battery has not been used for a long period of time, it maybe necessary to connect, disconnect and then reconnect the charger before charging will begin. Battery performance depends on your usage patterns. Caution: There is a risk of explosion if the battery is replaced by an incorrect battery type.
6 SWITCHING ON AND OFF To switch the phone on and off To switch off, press and hold until the display clears. To switch back on, press and hold until the display turns on. Warning! Do not switch on when mobile phone use is prohibited or if it may cause interference or danger.
7 7.1 MAKING & ANSWERING CALLS Make a call Enter the phone number using the keypad and press 7.2 . Make an international call Press and hold until a "+" sign for the international prefix appears. 7.8 Dial from phonebook 1. From the home screen, press or Phonebook. 2. Press 2 – 9 on the keypad to enter the first letters of the name you are searching, scroll to the name and press to call. 7.9 Dial from outgoing call log 1. From the home screen, press to access outgoing call log. 2. Scroll to the name or number and press to call. 7.10 Turn off incoming call ringer When the phone rings, press 7.11 twice.
7.12 Answer a second call When you receive a second call during a call, the phone will emit a beep tone to notify you of the second incoming call. Press to answer the second call or press to reject the call. Note: To receive a second call, you must first deactivate Call diversion (see page 39 ) and activate Call waiting (see page 39). www.binatonetelecom.

9. USING THE PHONEBOOK You can save names and phone numbers in the SIM card memory or the phone memory. The number of phonebook contacts you can store on the SIM card depends on the capacity of your SIM card memory. 9.1 Call a contact from the phonebook 1. From the home screen, press Phonebook or to access your phonebook entries. 2. Enter the first letter of the contact‟s name. The names starting with that letter is displayed. 3. Scroll to the contact you wish to call. 4. Press to call. 5.
9.3 Edit a phonebook entry 1. From the home screen, press Phonebook or to access your phonebook entries. 2. Enter the first letter of the contact‟s name. The names starting with that letter is displayed. 3. Scroll to the contact you wish to edit and press . 4. Scroll to Edit and press . 5. Edit name using the keypad and press . 6. Edit number using the keypad and press . The phonebook entry is updated. 7. Press to return to the home screen. 9.4 9.4.1 Delete a phonebook contacts Delete one by one 1.

9.6 Move Phonebook contacts 1. From the home screen, press Phonebook or to access your phonebook entries. 2. Enter the first letter of the contact‟s name. Scroll to the contact you wish to move and press . 4. Scroll to Move and press . If you have selected a SIM card contact, the contact will be moved to the phone memory.
10. SMS TEXT MESSAGING 10.1 Write and send SMS Short Message application enables you to send and receive text messages to and from another party, using Short Messaging Service (SMS). You can use Short Message to send messages to another mobile phone or device that is capable of receiving SMS messages. To compose and send an SMS message, follow the steps below: 1. From the home screen, press to enter write message screen. 2. Enter the text message using the keypad and press 3.

Voice mail This menu allows you to set your voice mailbox number, as well as listen to your voice mails.
10.3.2 Listen to voice mail messages 1. From the home screen, press to enter the main menu. 2. Scroll to Short Message > Voice mail > Listen to Voice Mail messages and press . The voice mailbox number is dialed. 3. Press to return to the home screen. 10.4 SMS settings Some of your SMS settings are dependent on the service you subscribe to with the network provider. 11 CALL RECORDS Call records shows you records of your incoming, outgoing and missed calls. It also shows the duration of your calls. 11.1 Check call records 1. 12 SETTINGS 12.1 Display settings 1. From the home screen, press to enter the main menu. 2. Scroll to Settings > Display and press . 3. Scroll to one of the following display options and press . Language Scroll to your preferred language setting (English, German, French) and press to confirm. Back Light Scroll to your preferred backlight duration (10 seconds on, 15 seconds on, 20 seconds on, 30 seconds on or Always on) and press to confirm.

Power on PIN1 Scroll to your preferred option (ON, (Default: xxxx) OFF or Change PIN1) and press to confirm. Note: Change PIN1 option is available only if you have selected ON. Change PIN2 Enter PIN2 code three times and press (Default: xxxx) to confirm. Phone Lock Scroll to your preferred option (ON, (Default: xxxx) OFF or Change Phone Code) and press to confirm. If you select ON, proceed to select Verify when power-on or Verify with new SIM and press to confirm.
12.4 Profile settings User Profiles allows you to adjust the ring setting of your SPEAKEASY 300 according to different environments. There are 4 preset profiles – Standard, Conference, Outdoor and Indoor. Each profile consists of the following settings: Tone SMS alert tone Alarm tone Alert Type Ring Tone Volume Key volume Vibrating Spoken no. You can use the default settings or customise them as desired. 12.4.1 Activate a profile setting 1.

12.5 Network settings 12.5.1 Call Waiting This feature enables you to be informed of a second incoming call, this feature is network-dependent. 1. From the home screen, press to enter the main menu. 2. Scroll to Settings > Network settings > Call waiting and press . 3. Scroll to your preferred call waiting option and press . Activate Press to confirm. Deactivate Press to confirm. Check status Press to confirm. 4. Press to return to the home screen. 12.5.
Unreachable Scroll to Activate, Deactivate or Check status and press to confirm. 4. If you choose Activate, enter the phone number and press twice to confirm. 5. Press to return to the home screen. 12.5.3 Call Barring This feature is network-dependent and requires a call barring password (Default: 0000, which you need to check with you service provider). It enables you to set limits to your incoming and outgoing calls. 1. From the home screen, press to enter the main menu. 2.
4. If you choose Activate, enter the call barring password (Default: 0000 which you need to check with you service provider) and press twice to confirm. 5. Press to return to the home screen. 12.5.4 Network selection 1. From the home screen, press to enter the main menu. 2. Scroll to Settings > Network settings > Network select mode and press . 3. Scroll to select your preferred selection mode (Automatic selection or Manual selection) and press to confirm. 4. Press to return to the home screen. 12.
12.6.3 Activate/Deactivate any key answer 1. From the home screen, press to enter the main menu. 2. Scroll to Settings > Call settings > Any key answer and press . 3. From the home screen, press to enter the main menu. 2. Scroll to Settings > Recover Default Value and press . 3. Press to confirm. 4. Enter phone code (Default: 0000) and press . 5.
13 TOOLS The phone comes with a number of useful tools that you can access via Tools menu. 13.1 Calendar 1. From the home screen, press to enter the main menu. 2. Scroll to Tools > Calendar and press . The current month’s calendar is displayed and the current date is highlighted. 3. Press to return to the home screen. 13.2 Alarm You can set up to 3 alarms on the phone. When the alarm rings, press to stop the alarm or press Snooze to snooze. The alarm will snooze for 5 minutes before it rings again.
13.2.2 Activate or Deactivate an alarm setting 1. From the home screen, press to enter the main menu. 2. Scroll to Tools > Alarm and press . 3. Scroll to an alarm setting (Alarm 1, Alarm 2 or Alarm 3) and press . 4. Scroll to On or Off and press . 5. Press to return to the home screen 13.3 Calculator 1. From the home screen, press to enter the main menu. 2. Scroll to Tools > Calculator and press . 3. Enter the number and press to display a list of operators.
14 TROUBLESHOOTING The phone cannot be switched on 1. Is there any power in the battery? 2. Is the battery installed properly? Battery cannot be charged 1. Check that the charger is connected to the phone properly. 2. Is the battery still in operational condition? The performance of the battery will be reduced after several years. 3. Is the battery completely discharged? If so the phone needs to be connected to the charger for a while before it can be charged. Fails to register to the network 1.
Cannot call out 1. Is the SIM card registered to the network? 2. Is call barring enabled? 3. Are calls prohibited due to unpaid call charges? 4. Have you enabled the FDN function? 5. Have you selected line 2 although your network provider doesn't provide this service? Cannot call in 1. Is the SIM card registered to the network? 2. Are incoming calls prohibited due to unpaid call charges? 3. Is call forwarding enabled? 4.
15 GUARANTEE AND SERVICE INFORMATION The SPEAKEASY 300 has a warranty of 12 months from the original date of purchase as shown on your sales receipt. The warranty does not cover any faults or defects caused by accidents, misuse, normal wear and tear, negligence, faults on the telephone line, lightning, tampering of the equipment or any attempt to adjust or repair other than through approved agents. Please keep your original dated sales receipt as proof of warranty.
15.2 Servicing After Warranty Has Expired If the unit is no longer covered under warranty: 1. Pack all components of your SPEAKEASY 300 with the original packaging. Remember to include the power adapter. 2. Call our Service Hotline at: 0845 345 9677 and request for a quotation on potential repair charges. Our customer service staff will provide you with details on where to send your SPEAKEASY 300 for repair. 3.
16 BATTERY INFORMATION The rechargeable battery needs several charge and discharge cycles to reach full capacity! When the operating time becomes noticeably shorter than normal, it is time to buy a new battery. Use only batteries & chargers approved by Binatone and unplug the charger when not in use. (There is a risk of explosion if the lithium battery is replaced by an incorrect type or is not disposed of correctly.
17 ADDITIONAL SAFETY INFORMATION Operating environment Follow the regulations in force in any area and always switch off your phone whenever it is forbidden to use it, or when it may cause interference or danger, e.g. when driving, on an aircraft, in a petrol station, in a hospital or any other area with warning signs. Pacemakers Pacemaker manufacturers recommend keeping at least 20cm between a handheld wireless phone and a pacemaker to avoid potential interference with the pacemaker.
Placing the unit Do not place the handset in the area over an air bag or in the air bag deployment area. Parts of the phone are magnetic and may attract small objects, so check there are no sharp items, particularly by the earpiece. Do not place credit cards or other magnetic storage media near the phone, because information stored on them may be erased.
