Controlled Flow Baby Feeder ® Instruction Manual
Introduction Everyday in Neonatal Intensive Care Departments, Pediatric Hospitals, and Maternity Wards across the country, premature and medically fragile baby's struggle with the ability to feed and receive nutrition orally. The medical condition of the baby combined with a lack of medical devices designed to address this issue has added to long hospital stays and sizable healthcare costs. Bionix Medical Technologies has developed a product that is intended to improve this situation.
How it Works The Controlled Flow Baby Feeder is designed to transition babies from non-oral to oral feeds. It utilizes six, easy to adjust flow settings including “zero” flow to establish non-nutritive sucking and to pace the baby for feeding. The six easy to adjust settings slowly condition the sensory system and stimulate esophageal motility with manageable amounts of oral nutrition.
Controlled Flow Baby Feeder Assembly Instructions 1) Screw the Yellow 5-Hole Flow Restrictor onto the Bottle. 2) Press the Purple Silicone Seal onto the Yellow 5-Hole Flow Restrictor. 3) Place the Green Flow Adjuster over the Purple Seal and snap it onto the Yellow Flow Restrictor so that the number “0” is viewable through the window on the Green thumb tab. Make sure all 3 tabs on the Green Flow Adjuster are securely fastened. (Fig.
8) Screw the Feeder Assembly onto the Graduated Feeding Bottle. 9) Begin with the flow adjustment set at “0” flow, to establish non-nutritive sucking. Adjust the flow setting (1-5) depending on the feeding ability of the baby. (Fig. 5) Fig.5 Do not use powdered formula. Any unmixed powder may clog the device. Helpful Hints 1) Begin assembly by building off of the bottle (i.e. screw the yellow flow restrictor to the 60ml graduated feeding bottle).
Usage Instructions 1) You may begin using the Controlled Flow Baby Feeder on setting 0 (non-nutritive sucking) in place of a pacifier to familiarize the baby to the nipple and trigger positive visual stimulation from the bottle, as well as to begin to pace the baby. a) If the baby is more advanced in their feeding abilities, begin on setting 0 to allow the baby to calm and organize itself for feeding. Once non-nutritive sucking has been established, select appropriate flow setting and begin feeding.
Cleaning Instructions After each feeding: 1) Take the Controlled Flow Baby Feeder apart, separating all pieces. 2) Utilize the cleaning syringe (included) to flush water through the center channel of the nipple to remove any remaining formula. 3) Wash all parts in warm, soapy water. 4) Rinse thoroughly. *The Controlled Flow Baby Feeder may also be cleaned on the top rack of the dishwasher.
