If, in the Phone application, on the General Options screen, you set the Dial from
Home screen field to Yes, you can dial numbers quickly from the Home screen.
On the Home screen, type the phone number and click the trackwheel to view the
menu. Click Call.
To alpha-dial
When you call a contact, your handheld enters number-lock mode automatically.
You can use the alpha-dialling feature to type letters when you enter a phone
number of while you are on a call.
To type one letter, press the Right Shift key and type the letter.
To type multiple letters, press the Alt key and the Right Shift key. Your
handheld enters character mode and you can type multiple letters. To turn off
character mode, press the Right Shift key.
To dial corporate extensions
If you regularly call contacts at the same company with different extensions, you
can configure your handheld’s Smart Dialing screen so that you only need to dial
the extension. When you type x, followed by the extension number, the handheld
automatically dials the company’s main phone number as you have set it on the
Smart Dialing screen. After a brief period of time, the extension is dialed. Refer to
"To set corporate dialing" on page 152 for more information on configuring this
option.
Setting the volume
While you are connected to a phone call, scroll the trackwheel to change the
volume for your handheld’s Phone application. Scroll up to increase the volume
or scroll down to decrease the volume.
Putting phone calls on hold
After you have placed or received a phone call, you can put it on hold.
Note: If you are working in one of the handheld’s other applications while you are
connected to a phone call and you want to change the volume for the Phone
application, click the trackwheel to view the menu. Click Volume. The volume indicator
appears. Scroll the trackwheel to increase or decrease the volume.
