4.2 Operating Instructions
4.2.1 TURNING THE MUX ON
To turn on the mux, set at least one of the two rear POWER switches to ON. (In general, you should turn on
both POWER switches in order to achieve power source redundancy.) The corresponding POWER indicator(s)
light in green.
4.2.2 N
ORMAL INDICATIONS
During normal operation:
• The POWER indicators of the active power supply sources light in green.
• The MAIN indicator lights on. However, if you are using the mux with the optional dual fiber link board
installed, the light corresponding to the fiber optic link in use (MAIN or BACKUP) lights up.
• All SYNC LOSS, AIS, and TEST front-panel indicators are off.
4.2.3 U
SING THE SERVICE
CHANNEL
1. Plug a headset into the front-panel jack.
2. Press the CALL pushbutton and wait for the answer of the remote operator to start a conversation.
3. After the remote operator answers, you can speak freely, as the service channel operates full-duplex.
4. To answer an incoming call: When the buzzer sounds (the CALL front-panel indicator also lights while the
buzzer sounds), put on the headset and answer.

To turn off the mux, set the rear power switches to OFF.
