Before you switch devices

Learn what transfer options are available to
you
Note: You can use the options listed below to transfer data from one BlackBerry smartphone to another BlackBerry
smartphone.
You can transfer device data, including some settings, phone history, pictures, music, browser bookmarks, and so on, from
one BlackBerry device to another. To transfer data to your BlackBerry 10 device, you can use BlackBerry Link on your
computer, BlackBerry Protect, or you can use a media card on your device.
Devices running BlackBerry Device Software 5.0 or later
If you're switching from a device running BlackBerry Device Software 5.0 or later, you can use BlackBerry Link on
your computer to transfer most of your important files. To download BlackBerry Link, on your computer, visit
www.blackberry.com/BlackBerryLink and select the Windows or Mac option.
Devices running BlackBerry 7 or BlackBerry 7.1
If you're switching from a device running BlackBerry 7 or BlackBerry 7.1, you can use BlackBerry Link on your
computer to transfer most of your important files. To download BlackBerry Link, on your computer, visit
www.blackberry.com/BlackBerryLink and select the Windows or Mac option. You can also use a media card to
transfer your files.
Devices with BlackBerry Protect
If you're switching from a device that has BlackBerry Protect installed, you can transfer supported data, such as
contacts, from your current device's backup file to your new device.
Tip: To see what version of software you're currently running, on the home screen of your old device, do one of the
following:
Click Options > About.
Click Options > Device > About Device Versions.
