DSA –
Digital Sound Adjustment
This device features a means for digital
sound calibration (DSA Digital Sound
Adjustment).
Three self-calibrating user equalizers
(Equalizer 1 – 3) are available for this pur-
pose. Every user equalizer consists of a
7-band equalizer, whereby you can indi-
vidually select one of 61 frequencies (from
20 Hz to 20,000 Hz) for each band.
The equalizers 1 – 3 can be adjusted au-
tomatically using the supplied calibration
microphone.
The values of the equalizer that are de-
termined automatically can be changed
manually.
For further sound optimisation, you also
have access to a dynamic noise cover-
ing (DNC) and a virtual loudspeaker posi-
tioning.
Automatically calibrating the
equalizer
For each of the three equalizers 1 – 3, you
can perform a separate calibration. Hence,
you can perform calibrations for different
situations, e.g. a calibration that optimises
the equalizer settings for the driver, or a cal-
ibration that achieves the best compromise
for driver and passenger.
Phases of the automatic calibration
The calibration is divided into several
phases:
In the fi rst phase, an increasingly loud-
er calibration noise sounds for approx.
5 to 10 seconds. This noise is meas-
ured to determine the reference sound
pressure. The duration of this phase
depends on the loudspeaker confi gura-
tion of the vehicle.
The second phase (approx. 20 sec-
onds) is divided into four calibration
segments of approx. 5 seconds each.
In every calibration segment, a certain
part of the equalizer frequencies is
calibrated. A steady calibration noise
sounds in every segment. The Sound
level of the noise differs from segment
to segment since other frequencies are
calibrated in each case.
In normal mode, the second phase is
passed three times: the fi rst time via the
front loudspeakers, the second time via
the rear loudspeakers, and the third time
via the centre speaker. For this reason, the
complete calibration can last up to approx.
70 seconds.
Note
For example, if no centre speaker is
connected, you do not hear any calibra-
tion noise in the last 20 seconds of the
calibration. However, the calibration
continues.
In crossover mode, the second phase takes
place only once using all the connected
loudspeakers. For this reason, the calibra-
tion lasts only up to approx. 30 seconds.
Positioning the calibration microphone
during the calibration
To achieve the perfect result for a specifi c
situation, place the microphone at the cor-
responding positions inside the vehicle dur-
ing the calibration, e.g.:
To calibrate an equalizer for the driver,
position the calibration microphone al-
