INSTALLATION CLEARANCES TO COMBUSTIBLES WARNING: In order to avoid the possibility of exposed insulation or vapor barrier coming in contact wit the appliance body, it is recommended that any existing walls used to enclose this appliance should be finished with non-combustible treatments (i.e. stucco/sheetrock etc..), as you would finish any other outside wall of a home. This will ensure that clearance to combustibles is maintained within a cavity.
INSTALLATION WARNING: Do not allow any combustible materials to overlap the firebox front. WARNING: Do not allow combustible or noncombustible materials to cover any necessary openings like louvered slots. WARNING: Never cover any air inlets on the front of the firebox. Built-in installation of this fireplace involves installing fireplace into a framedin enclosure. If installing a built-in mantel above the fireplace, you must follow the clearances shown in Figure 3.
INSTALLATION STANDOFF BRACKET INSTALLATION Install four standoff brackets using the sheet metal screws provided in the hardware kit. See Figure 7. Adjust the standoff brackets based on the estimated thickness of the frame plus the finished hearth. 12 Before completing, ensure that the front frame assembly can be removed from the fireplace unit at the planned depth.

Remove the burner plate seal from the NG orifice retainer and transfer it to the LP orifice retainer. 3. Disconnect the pilot gas tube form the NG pilot orifice. Disconnect the NG pilot orifice from the pilot assembly. 4. Connect the LP pilot orifice to the pilot assembly. Reconnect the pilot gas tube. 5.
INSTALLATION CONNECTING TO GAS SUPPLY WARNING: A qualified service technician must connect appliance to gas supply. Follow all local codes. WARNING: This appliance requires a 3/8" NPT (National Pipe Thread) inlet connection to the pressure regulator. WARNING: For natural gas, Never connect appliance to private (non-utility) gas wells. This gas is commonly known as wellhead gas. CAUTION: For propane gas, never connect appliance directly to the gas supply.
INSTALLATION Typical Inlet Pipe Diameters Use 3/8 " black iron pipe or greater. Installation must include an equipment shutoff valve, union, and plugged 1/8" NPT tap. Locate NPT tap within reach for test gauge hook up. NPT tap must be upstream from the appliance (see Figure 13). IMPORTANT: Install an equipment shutoff valve in an accessible location. The equipment shutoff valve is for turning on or shutting off the gas to the appliance.
INSTALLATION REMOTE PROPANE GAS ENCLOSURES INSTALLATION GUIDELINES If the unit is permanently connected to a • Bottom opening must provide a gas piping system from a remote supply minimum of 1/2 square inches for each tank, installation must be in accordance pound of propane contained in the tank with local codes or, in absence of local (see example below). codes, with the National Fuel Gas codes • Every opening must have a minimum ANSI Z223/1. NFPA 54. dimensions to allow entrance of 1/8" diameter rod.
INSTALLATION CHECKING GAS CONNECTIONS WARNING: Test all gas piping and connections, internal and external to unit, for leaks after installing or servicing. Correct all leaks at once. WARNING: Never use an open flame to check for a leak. Apply a noncorrosive leak detection fluid to all joints. If bubbles form, there is a leak. Correct all leaks at once. PRESSURE TESTING GAS SUPPLY PIPING SYSTEM Test Pressures In Excess Of 1/2 PSIG (3.5 kPa) 1.
INSTALLATION INSTALLING GRATE (OPTIONAL ACCESSORY FOR DF450SS-G) Install grate before placing glass media into burner pan (see above). Place grate assembly onto burner pan. Secure with 2 screws as shown in Figure 20. INSTALLING GLASS MEDIA 1. For model DF450SS-L, install grate before placing glass media for easier installation. See above. 2. Place glass media evenly in the burner pan as shown in Figure 21. Do not cover pilot assembly. 22 www.factorybuysdirect.
INSTALLATION INSTALLING LOGS (OPTIONAL ACCESSORY FOR DF450SS-G) WARNING: Failure to position the parts in accordance with these diagrams or failure to use only parts specifically approved with this fireplace may result in property damage or personal injury. CAUTION: After installation and periodically thereafter, check to ensure that no yellow flame comes n contact with any log. With the fireplace set to High, check to see if yellow flames contact any log.
OPERATION FOR YOUR SAFETY READ BEFORE LIGHTING WARNING: If you do not follow these instructions exactly, a fire or explosion may result causing property damage, personal injury, or loss of life. A. This appliance has a pilot which must be lighted by hand. When lighting the pilot, follow these instructions exactly. B. BEFORE LIGHTING smell all around the appliance area for gas. Be sure to smell next to the floor because some gas is heavier than air and will settle on the floor.
OPERATION Note: If pilot does not stay lit, refer to Troubleshooting, pages 29 through 32. Also contact a qualified service technician or gas supplier for repairs. To light pilot with match, see Manual Lighting Procedure. 7. Keep control knob pressed in for 30 seconds after lighting pilot. After 30 seconds, release control knob. If control knob does not pop up when released, contact a qualified service person or gas supplier for repairs. Note" If pilot goes out, repeat steps 3 through 7.
INSPECTING BURNERS PILOT FLAME PATTERN Figure 27 shows a correct and incorrect pilot flame patterns. The incorrect pilot flame is not touching the thermocouple. This will cause the thermocouple to cool, which shuts the fireplace off. There should not be excessive flames present under pilot shield. If unit has been converted to propane gas and the pilot injector orifice has not been replaced, there will be excessive pilot flames. Install propane injector orifice if this is the case.
CARE AND MAINTENANCE WARNING: Turn off appliance and let it cool before servicing. CAUTION: you must keep control areas, burner, and circulating air passageways of appliance clean. Inspect these areas of appliance before each use. Have appliance inspected yearly by a qualified service technician. Appliance may need more frequent cleaning due to excessive lint from carpeting, bedding material, pet hair, etc.
CARE AND MAINTENANCE PILOT CAUTION: Never use a wire, needle, or similar object to clean pilot. This can damage pilot unit. Use a vacuum cleaner, pressurized air, or a small, soft bristled brush to clean. A yellow tip on the pilot flame indicates dust and dirt in the pilot assembly. There is a small pilot air inlet hole about 2" from where the pilot flame comes out of the pilot assembly (see Figure 31). With the unit off, lightly blow air through the air inlet hole.
TROUBLESHOOTING WARNING: If you smell gas: • • • • Shut off gas supply. Do not try to light any appliance. Do not touch any electrical switch. Immediately call your gas supplier. Follow the gas supplier's instructions. • If you cannot reach your gas supplier, call the fire department. WARNING: Only a qualified service technician should service and repair fireplace. Make sure that power is turned off before proceeding. Turn off and let cool before servicing.
