Specifications

Use the Save As box to tell the ProtoTRAK PMX CNC what kind of file you want the
current program (in the .PT4 format) to be converted into.
In the image above the file name 102209 is being saved on drive G as a .mx3 file. Note
that although the program or part name as shown in the status line is HOUSING014, the
file name given for converting the file conforms to the .mx3 format – fewer than eight
characters long and consisting of numbers.
14.10 ProtoTRAK and TRAK CNC Compatibility
File exchange between the ProtoTRAK PMX CNC and other ProtoTRAK and TRAK
CNC’s is possible because the ProtoTRAK PMX CNC is backward compatible. In other
words, the ProtoTRAK PMX CNC can store and retrieve other ProtoTRAK and TRAK
CNC files. The actual transfer of the files can be accomplished by using a USB flash
drive and/or Ethernet cable. In order to transfer files between the ProtoTRAK PMX
CNC and previous generations of ProtoTRAK and TRAK CNC, you must have the .MX3
converter activated. See Section 14.9 above.
Note: Previous ProtoTRAK and TRAK CNC’s allow numeric filenames of eight (8)
characters or less, while the ProtoTRAK PMX CNC allow alphanumeric filenames
(letters and numbers) of up to twenty five (25) characters. Be sure to use only numeric
filenames when storing a file on a ProtoTRAK PMX CNC that will be retrieved by
previous ProtoTRAK and TRAK CNC’s. Before conversion, you can easily rename the
file in the ProtoTRAK PMX CNC current memory.
