5.2. Special hazards arising from the substance or mixture
Carbon oxides. Other irritating fumes and smokes.
5.3. Advice for firefighters
Firefighting instructions
:
Use water spray or fog for cooling exposed containers. Exercise caution when fighting any
chemical fire. Ventilate the area. Keep out of smoke. Prevent fire-extinguishing water from
contaminating surface water or the ground water system.
Protection during firefighting
:
Do not enter fire area without proper protective equipment, including respiratory protection. Wear
a MSHA/NIOSH-approved or equivalent, pressure-demand, self-contained breathing apparatus
and full protective gear.
SECTION 6: Accidental release measures
6.1. Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures
Keep unnecessary personnel away. Wear appropriate protective equipment and clothing during clean-up. Do not touch damaged containers or spilled
material unless wearing appropriate protective clothing. Ventilate closed spaces before entering them. Local authorities should be advised if significant
spillages cannot be contained. For personal protection, see section 8 of the SDS.
6.2. Environmental precautions
Avoid discharge into drains, water courses or onto the ground. Use appropriate containment to avoid environmental contamination.
6.3. Methods and material for containment and cleaning up
Methods for cleaning up
:
Stop the flow of material, if this is without risk. Use a non-combustible material like vermiculite,
sand or earth to soak up the product and place into a container for later disposal. Contaminated
absorbent material may pose the same hazards as the spilled product. Dike the spilled material,
where this is possible. Prevent entry into waterways, sewer, basements or confined areas. Clean
surface thoroughly to remove residual contamination. Never return spills to original containers for
re-use. For waste disposal, see section 13 of the SDS.
SECTION 7: Handling and storage
7.1. Precautions for safe handling
Avoid contact with eyes, skin, and clothing. When using, do not eat, drink or smoke. Wear appropriate personal protective equipment. Wash hands
thoroughly after handling. Observe good industrial hygiene practices.
7.2. Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities
Store in a cool (below 104F), dry place out of direct sunlight. Keep out of the reach of children. Store in original tightly closed container. Store in a well-
ventilated place. Store away from incompatible materials (see Section 10 of the SDS).
SECTION 8: Exposure controls/personal protection
8.1. Control parameters
Occupational exposure limits No exposure limits noted for ingredient(s).
Biological limit values No biological exposure limits noted for the ingredient(s).
8.2. Exposure controls
Personal protective equipment
:
Avoid all unnecessary exposure.
Hand protection
:
Wear protective gloves.
Eye protection
:
Chemical goggles or safety glasses.
Respiratory protection
:
Wear approved mask.
General hygiene considerations
:
Always observe good personal hygiene measures, such as washing after handling the material
and before eating, drinking, and/or smoking. Routinely wash work clothing and protective
equipment to remove contaminants.
