Boulder Link Boulder Link is a means of interconnecting most Boulder products so that their microprocessors can communicate and pass important information. Among the key features, Boulder Link allows sequential turn-on of power amplifiers and other products when the 1021 is brought out of Standby mode. When the 1021 is set as the Master, power amplifiers can also send messages to the player, which are then shown on the display.
13-3
Boulder Link Using a Preamplifier with Boulder Link To use a preamplifier with the 1021 Disc Player, the preamp, the disc player, and the remote control must all have the same IR remote address (NOT Boulder Link address). For further information regarding the IR remote address of each Boulder product, please contact your dealer. The 1021 volume control should be set to “Fixed,” except in the scenario described in the following paragraph.
13-5
Boulder Link Connecting Older Generation Products via Boulder Link If you are using the 1021 Disc Player with certain other Boulder products, a Boulder Link Adapter Box (BLAB) may be required to make the connection. Although the connectors are mechanically different between the series, they are electrically the same, thus allowing the various series to be mixed. Please contact your Boulder dealer for further information. The Boulder Link Master/Slave switch is located on the rear panel.
13-7
Boulder Link Power Up via Boulder Link With each component connected together with a Boulder Link cable and individually connected to the AC mains, pressing the 1021’s front panel Standby button will begin the turn-on sequence of all components. When a “MASTER” 1021 is powered up, it will search for any “SLAVE” units connected to it. As the master finds each slave, the slave’s ID number will be shown on the display.
13-9
Boulder Link “AMPLIFIER CLIP” means that the amplifier’s output has momentarily reached its output voltage limitation. “UNIT 1 IS OFFLINE” means that the slave is no longer responding via Boulder Link. Its Boulder Link cable may have become disconnected, or it may have been disconnected from AC mains power. Boulder Link “UNIT 1 IS ONLINE” means that the slave is now responding via Boulder Link in a normal manner and has been recognized by the master.
