VENTING
Properventingofyourstoveisveryimportantforgoodcleanburnswithhighefficiency.Inaddition,ventingcan
haveadirectimpactuponthesafetyofyourstove.TheMahoganyWoodStoveisapprovedforusewithdouble
wallconnectorandthesamemanufacturers’chimneysystemasfollows:

1. ChimneymustcomplywiththerequirementsforTypeHTchimneysinthestandardforChimneys’
FactoryBuilt,ResidentialTypeandBuildingHeatingAppliance,UL103,oracodeapprovedmasonry
chimneywithflueliner.
2. Installthechimneyin
accordancewithalloftheinstructionsprovidedbythechimneymanufacturer.
NOTE:Yourchimneymustcomplywithlocalbuildingandfirecodes.Checkwithyourlocalofficials
foradditionalrequirements.
3. Installthefirstpieceofpipe,crimped enddown,intothefluecollaronthestoveensuringanairtight
connection.Securewithscrewsthroughsideoffluecollar.Continuestackingpipeinthismanneruntil
withinreachofchimney.Useonlyanairtightslipjointtomaketheconnectiontothechimney.
Allhorizontalrunsofpipeshouldbeasshortas
possibleandarerequiredbyNFPANo.

travelsofnolessthan¼”tothelinearfoot.The
connectorpipemustmeetminimumclearancesinany
directiontowallsorothercombustiblematerials.It
mustattachtoalistedmetalchimneyatleast
6”in
diameterwithaminimumthicknessof24gauge,orto
amasonrychimneywithafluepassageofatleast48
squareinches.
Itisrequiredthatachimneyconnectorpipenot
extendfurtherthantheinnerwallofthefluewhenit
isconnectedtoamasonry
chimney,andthatiteither
becementedtothemasonryorbeinstalledwithout
cementinathimbleconnectedtothemasonrywall.
Whentheconnectorisinsertedinathimble,thejoint
mustbetightenoughsothatitwillnotbedislodgedin
normaluse.Installtheconnectorat
nolessthanthe
minimumclearancesfromtheceilingwhenusinga90
degreeelbowtopassthroughcombustible
constructions.
Chimneyconnectorpipesshouldneverpassthrougha
floor,ceiling,firewall,andpartitionorcombustion
constructionofanytypeunlesscertainprecautions
aretaken.Thebestmethodistouse
alistedthimble
andalistedinsulatedchimneyinaccordancewiththe
manufacturer’sdirections.NFPANo.211and
CAN/CSAB365alsogivessomeapprovedmethodfor
passingafluepipethroughcombustibleconstructions.
Natural Draft
Thechimneyserves adualpurposeofdrawing
combustionairintothestoveandexhausting
combustionbyproducts.Draftistheforcewhich
movesexhaustgasesupthechimney(hotairrises).As
theexhaustrisesupthechi mney,combustionairis
drawnintothestovetoreplaceit.Yourstove
relieson
naturaldraftforitsonlysourceofcombustionair.
Poordraftcancausepoorcombustionandsmoke.Too
muchdraftcancauseexcessiveburnratesandhigh
temperatureinthestove.Someofthethingsthat can
affectnaturaldraftingaresizeandlengthofthe
chimney,nearby
obstructions,andgeographical
location.YourBreckwelldealerwillbeabletohelp
youmatchyourstovetoaproperchimneysystem.
Negative Pressure
Thisstoveisnottobeoperatedinanegativepressure
area.Negativepressurecanbecausedbylarge
exhaustfansinairtighthomes,orbyairreturnfora
forcedairheatingsystemsinthesameroomasthe
stove.Thiscanleadtoba ckdraftingofthestove
pulling
combustionexhaustintotheroom.Anoutside
airsourceconnectedtothestovewillnoteliminate
thesourceofnegativepressure.Toeliminatenegative
pressureproblems,besureyourhomehasan
adequatemakeupairsupply.
