Chapter 3 – Creating Presentations
Live Data, Text, RSS, and Media RSS Feeds
Networked BrightSign players can display RSS feeds, including standard RSS (text) or Media RSS (feeds that contain
video or images). If you have a BrightSign Network account, you can create Live Data Feeds, which are RSS feeds
hosted on the BrightSign Network. You can create and edit them using BrightAuthor or the WebUI.
You can also create your own static text feeds and add them to a Ticker zone like an RSS feed.
Note: Text feeds are static, whereas RSS and Media RSS feeds are updated each time the BrightSign player connects to
the server. RSS feeds are ideal for instant updates from sources such as Twitter.
Live Data Feeds
Follow these steps to create a Live Data Feed in BrightAuthor. Once you have added the feed to the BrightSign Network,
you can use it like any other Data Feed.
1. Navigate to Create > Live Data Feed.
2. Click the
Add Item button to create a new feed entry.
3. Enter a Title for the feed entry.
Note: The title, as well as the index number, allows you to pick a specific entry to display when using RSS feeds in
Live Text.
4. Enter a Value for the feed entry. This is the portion of the feed that will be displayed on screen.
5. Use the up and down arrows to reorder the list of entries. You can also use the X button to delete an entry.
6. When you are finished adding entries, click the Upload to network button in the upper-right portion of the screen
(you must be connected to the BrightSign Network).
7. (Optional) You can choose to save a copy of the feed in XML format by navigating to File > Save New Feed or File
> Save New Feed As. You can later retrieve and edit the feed by using File > Open Live Data Feed.
Note: If you would like to make further edits to the feed after uploading it to the BrightSign Network, you’ll need to use
the WebUI.
