BT Decor 1200 – Issue 1 – Edition 3 – 22.11.05 – 6899 6 Getting started Location You need to place your BT Decor 1200 within 3 metres of a telephone socket so that the cable will reach. Your BT Decor 1200 can be wall mounted, see Wall mounting your phone, on page 27. Inserting the batteries Battery low warning When the batteries are low and in need of replacing the display will show Low Battery. When the batteries are dead, the display will be blank.
BT Decor 1200 – Issue 1 – Edition 3 – 22.11.05 – 6899 Getting started Connecting the handset to the base Turn the phone over and connect the curly handset cord into the socket marked with the symbol. Turn the phone back over and position the handset on the receiver. Removing the base plinth (optional) Your BT Decor 1200 will come with the base plinth already attached. If you want to use your BT Decor 1200 on a flat surface such as a table or desk then we advise you to leave the plinth attached.

In standby, it flashes to indicate you have new calls in the Calls list. 2 Line Display When in standby, displays the time and date. Redial/Up button Press to access the last number dialled. Use to move through the menu, directory and Calls list. Handset Catch Turn the catch to use your phone in a wall-mounted position.
BT Decor 1200 – Issue 1 – Edition 3 – 22.11.05 – 6899 Using your phone Making and ending calls 9 If your BT Decor 1200 finds an exact match in the Directory for the number you dialled, the name of the person you are calling will be displayed instead of ‘Call’. Make a call 1. Lift the handset and wait for the dial tone. 2. Dial the telephone number. The number is displayed. During the call, the duration of the call will be displayed.

Receive a call See page 21 for more information on Caller Display. When you receive a call, the telephone rings and the red calls light flashes. The display will show Incoming call or if you have subscribed to a Caller Display service the caller’s name will be displayed if there is a match with a directory entry.
BT Decor 1200 – Issue 1 – Edition 3 – 22.11.05 – 6899 Using your phone Switch to handsfree during a call During a call: 1. Press Handsfree . The green Handsfree light illuminates. Place the handset back on the cradle. Continue your conversation in handsfree mode. To switch back to using the handset at any time during the call, simply lift the handset. Adjusting the handsfree volume There are 5 volume levels to choose from. The default setting is level 3. Press to increase the volume or the volume.

You can now talk to someone in the room without your caller hearing you. 2. Press and release the button again to return to your caller. The red secrecy light will go out. Redial If an exact match is found in the Directory, the caller’s name will be displayed instead of the number. To exit to standby without dialling the number, press .

Delete the redial number 1. Press Redial . The last number called is displayed. Calls 2. Press . Save Number is displayed. Menu Redial 3. Press Calls to display Delete Number and press 4. Number Deleted is displayed. Press standby. . to return to Dial mode There are 3 dial mode settings.

Press and hold to exit the directory and return to standby at any time. Directory full If you try to store a new entry and the directory is full, Directory Full will be displayed. You will need to delete entries before you can add new ones, see page 16. You can store 50 names and telephone numbers in your BT Decor 1200’s directory.

Redial or Calls to scroll to the directory Calls Or, to search alphabetically: Enter the first letter of the name you want e.g. for Emma, press twice to display names beginning with E, then scroll using or to the name you want. If the ringer is set to OFF, the call light will still flash to indicate when someone is calling you. Ringer volume There are 3 volume settings to choose from: High, Low or Ringer Off. If Ringer Off is selected, when in standby, the display will show Ringer Off. 1. Press Menu . Ringer Volume is displayed, press select. to Redial 2. The current volume setting is displayed.

If you subscribe to a Caller Display service, the time and date will be set automatically on receipt of your first incoming call. Your BT Decor 1200 uses the 24 hour clock. 1. Press Menu The default time setting is 12.01. The default date setting is 01/01. . Ringer Volume is displayed. Redial 2.

Ringer Volume is displayed. Redial 2. Press select. Calls to display Display Contrast, press to Redial 3. Press or to select the contrast level you want and press to confirm. Saved is displayed. BT Decor 1200 – Issue 1 – Edition 3 – 22.11.05 – 6899 Caller Display If you subscribe to a Caller Display service, your BT Decor 1200’s display shows who is calling (provided the number is not withheld, unavailable or is an international call). If you have stored a name to go with the number in the directory and an exact match is found, the name will be displayed instead. Calls list The Calls list contains the telephone numbers of the last 10 received calls.

Press to go straight to the Calls list and view the new calls. The Calls light stops flashing. The details for the most recent call are displayed. The date and time the call was received are displayed together with the caller’s number. New will be displayed if the call is a new unanswered call.

Press Calls to view the Calls list. For help with entering names, see page 14. Redial 2. Scroll Redial or Calls to the entry you want. Calls 3. Press Menu . Save Number is displayed, press . 4. Enter Name is displayed. Enter a name using the keypad and press . 5. Edit Number is displayed.

BT Decor 1200 – Issue 1 – Edition 3 – 22.11.05 – 6899 1571 Voice mail indication If you have subscribed to BT Answer 1571 or Call Minder, your BT Decor 1200 will indicate when you have received a voice message by the flashing messages light. BT Answer 1571 and Call Minder are invisible answer machines located at your local exchange which will take messages when you are out, engaged on another call or on the Internet.
BT Decor 1200 – Issue 1 – Edition 3 – 22.11.05 – 6899 26 1571 Voice mail indication The message waiting indicator is activated by a stuttered dial tone which you can hear when you pick up your phone. BT Calling Features, such as Call Diversion and Call Barring use a stuttered dial tone so therefore will cause the message waiting indicator to flash even if no messages have been left. IMPORTANT After an incoming call, or after lifting the handset, your BT Decor 1200 will check the line for any messages.

All items of telephone equipment have a Ringer Equivalence Number (REN), which is used to calculate the number of items which may be connected to any one telephone line. Your BT Decor 1200 has a REN of 1. A total REN of 4 is allowed, if the total REN of 4 is exceeded, the telephones may not ring.
