Supported Rate Limiting and Rate Shaping features on FastIron X
Series and FCX and ICX Series Switches
Lists the rate limiting and rate shaping on FastIron X Series and FCX and ICX Series Switches.
The following table lists the individual BrocadeFastIron switches and the rate limiting and rate shaping
features they support. These features are supported in the Layer 2 and Layer 3 software images,
except where explicitly noted.

Rate limiting overview
NOTE
Rate limiting is packet-based on ICX 6650 in contrast with the other platforms on which it is byte-based.
Port-based fixed rate limiting is supported on inbound ports. This feature allows you to specify the
maximum number of bytes (packets in the case of ICX 6650) a given port can receive. The port drops
bytes that exceed the limit you specify. You can configure a Fixed rate limiting policy on a port inbound
direction only. Fixed rate limiting applies to all traffic on the rate limited port.
Fixed rate limiting is at line rate and occurs in hardware. Refer to Rate limiting in hardware on page
46.
When you specify the maximum number of bytes, you specify it in kilobits per second (kbps). On ICX
6650, you specify the maximum number of packets. The Fixed rate limiting policy applies to one-second
intervals and allows the port to receive the number of bytes (packets in the case of ICX 6650) you
