If Metro VCS is configured by using standard ISLs, with distances of up to 1000 m, no limitations occur
for supported service types or the supported number of MAC addresses. Also, no special buffer
arrangements (long-distance ISL configuration) need to be done. Refer to Metro VCS using long-
distance ISLs on page 158.
If Metro VCS is configured using long-distance ISLs, special configurations have to be used and the
supported fabric functionality is limited. Refer to Metro VCS using standard-distance ISLs on page
161.
Metro VCS using long-distance ISLs
Extending Ethernet Fabrics over distance is accomplished by using long-distance ISLs. The buffer
allocation within a single port group is optimized, which extends the supported ISL distance.
