Introduction Air flows into the Intake Air Duct Kit through the front vent and out through the fans at the rear of the unit. This document provides instructions to install a Intake Air Duct Kit in a 19 in. (48.26 cm) Electronic Industries Association (EIA) rack in either a flush or recessed configuration using the following Brocade Intake Air Duct Kit. • Flush mount kit for rack rail-to-rail depth of 27 to 31 in. (68.58 to 78.74 cm). • Recessed kit for rail-to-rail depth of 27 to 31 in. (68.58 to 78.
Preparing to install the Intake Air Duct Kit in a four-post rack Use the following instructions to install the Intake Air Duct Kit in a four-post rack. There are two variations on the Intake Air Duct Kit depending on whether you need to have the port side of the switch recessed or flush mounted. Instructions for the variations appear as follows. • Installing the flush mount Intake Air Duct kit . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 4 • Installing the recessed mount Intake Air Duct kit . . . . .

3. Install the rails on the rack posts. (Figure 3). a. Note that the kit contains a rail for the left side of the rack (facing the rack front) and rail for the right side. b. The rails can be adjusted from 27 to 31 inches (68.58 and 78.74 cm) to accommodate your rack size. To lengthen or shorten a rail, loosen the four 10-32 screws in the two slots on the rail (see Figure 1 on page 5) and adjust the shelf to the desired length. Once adjusted, tighten the four 10-32 screws. c.
4. Attach the side duct to the left rail by aligning its mounting locations with the slotted holes on the rail. Secure the duct to the rail using the two 6-32 screws (refer to Figure 4). Tighten screws according to specifications under “Torque requirements” on page 6.
5. Install the top intake assembly into rack. a. The top intake assembly can be adjusted to a length between 27 and 31 inches (68.58 to 78.74 cm) to fit in the rack rails. To lengthen or shorten the intake assembly, loosen the 6-32 screws located in the four slots at the rear of the intake assembly (Figure 5). The length will be approximately the length of the adjustable rails.
b. Insert the top intake assembly down onto the side duct and then secure the intake to the rails with eight 10-32 screws with washers (Figure 6). Tighten the screws according to specifications under the “Torque requirements” on page 6. NOTE Be sure to allow for an additional 1U rack space above where you will install the top intake assembly to provide clearance for raising the intake and inserting it on to side duct tabs.
4. Secure the switch to the rack with six 10-32 screws with washers. Refer to Figure 7. Tighten the screws according to specifications under “Torque requirements” on page 6. Use the 10-32 x .63 in.(1.60 cm) Phillips screws with square cone washers to secure the switch. Use either 10-32 retainer nut for racks that have rails with square holes or 10-32 clip nut for racks that have rails with round holes to retain screws.
Install the air filter If desired, install the air filter to the air intake grill using the five captive screws. Refer to Figure 8. FIGURE 8 Installation of the air filter Complete the following steps to mount the new front air filter on the air intake. 1. Orient the new filter over the five mounting holes using the screws as guides. The mounting is asymmetric, so the holes match up only one way. 2. Using the #2 Phillips screwdriver, initiate the threads, two turns per screw, until all five are started.
