Replacing the toner cartridges 5
Model Name: For the item number of the toner cartridges, see Replacing supplies on page 118
The Standard toner cartridge can print approximately 2,500 pages (black) or approximately 1,500 pages
(cyan, magenta, yellow)

. The High Yield toner cartridge can print approximately 4,000 pages (black) or
approximately 3,500 pages (cyan, magenta, yellow)

. The Super High Yield toner cartridge can print
approximately 6,000 pages (black, cyan, magenta, yellow)

. Actual page count will vary depending on your
average type of document. When a toner cartridge is running low, the LCD displays Toner Low.
The toner cartridge that comes supplied with the machine must be replaced after printing approximately 2,500
pages (black) or approximately 1,500 pages (cyan, magenta, yellow)

NOTE
• The indication of remaining toner life will vary depending on the types of documents printed and your
usage.
• It is a good idea to keep a new toner cartridge ready for use when you see the Toner Low warning.
• To ensure high quality printing, we recommend using only Brother Original toner cartridges. When you
want to buy toner cartridges, contact your local Brother dealer or Brother customer service.
• We recommend cleaning the machine when you replace the toner cartridge. See Cleaning and Checking
the machine on page 148.
• DO NOT unpack the new toner cartridge until you are ready to install it.
Toner Low: X 5
Toner Low: X
If the LCD displays Toner Low: X, the machine has nearly run out of toner. Buy a new toner cartridge and
have it ready before you get a Replace Toner message. The X shows the toner colour that is near the end
of its life. (BK=Black, C=Cyan, M=Magenta, Y=Yellow). To replace the toner cartridge, see Replacing the toner
cartridges on page 123.
Replace Toner 5
When the following message appears on the LCD, you must replace the toner cartridge:
Replace Toner
The second line of the LCD indicates which colour must replace.
When the LCD displays Replace Toner the machine will stop printing until you replace the toner cartridge.
A new Brother Original toner cartridge will reset the Replace Toner message.
